It'll be less than an Xray. Really. Seriously.

SOMA, Japan – Radiation is spewing from damaged reactors at a crippled nuclear power plant in tsunami-ravaged northeastern Japan in a dramatic escalation of the 4-day-old catastrophe. The prime minister has warned residents to stay inside or risk getting radiation sickness.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said Tuesday that a fourth reactor at the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex was on fire and that more radiation was released.
Prime Minister Naoto Kan warned that there are dangers of more leaks and told people living within 19 miles (30 kilometers) of the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex stay indoors.

And the shit is headed our way. I gotta tell you, when I hear the words "Radiation is spewing" I feel a little less than comfortable.
I want you to think about something:
I don't trust our own government. Why in the fuck would I trust the Japanese government?

  1. Ya, and staying indoors will do what???? Just contain the bodies.

  2. Here's a site to track US radiation levels:

As far as staying indoors, it's related to evading fallout, or literally, contaminated dust/debris that is of little risk as long as it's external to your body. Inhaling/ingesting fallout is where you start to get problems, with greater intake leading to greater problems. Basing my statement on 20+ years of working directly with radiation in healthcare, and another 20 years of drilling on decontaminating military casualties "just in case". It's scary stuff, but can be handled just as people can handle others if they have access to good info. Lots of sites out there where military field manuals can be downloaded for free that cover radiation/fallout protection, and they're not bad for explaining things for those of us without a degree in nuclear physics.

  3. I must just be thinking of my house MauserMedic. My windows and doors are so draughty (we spell funny) that the outside would be sucked right in. It is scary stuff. I guess my point is, they are bullshitting us over there (and their own people) so I just want to keep my eye on it all. No harm done.
