Tattoo Jim, I remember as a kid in the grocery store seeing 5 gallon buckets of MANTECA. I thought WTF? Then i read the label closely. Manteca is mexican for LARD. My juvenile mind couldn't grasp 5 gal of fat. For what? When I got a little older it was aha, they really are greasy motherfuckers...
Hey dhanna59! Ain't nothing tastes any better than something/anything deep fried in fresh lard! Biscuits, cakes and pies tasted better made with fresh lard... eggs fried in that lard the morning after butchering, man! Those old cast iron skillets just loved to feel the plop of a big old spoon full of lard... it really didn't get any better than that!!!!!!!
