Jared Loughner was well known to Pima County law enforcement for making numerous threatening phone calls in the past, yet nothing was done. The High Sheriff himself though is quick to lay blame everywhere else but where it belongs - his department.
The following are excerpts:
The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.
Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system.

Arizona is a right-to-carry state, yet only one person supposedly got a shot off in return. What the fuck is up with that?
The fucking libs are so busy pointing fingers over the Tucson shooting that I'm surprised nobody has suggested Safeway is liable because they didn't provide sufficient security for the event.
And maybe I should shut the fuck up before some asshole files a suit for just that.

Dear Abby
Dear Abby:
My husband has a long record of money problems. He runs up huge credit-card bills and at the end of the month, if I try to pay them off, he shouts at me, saying I am stealing his money. He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up with the interest.
Also he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lot of expensive gifts, running up our bills even more.
Also, he has gotten religious. One week he hangs out with Catholics, and the next with people who say the Pope is the Anti-Christ, and the next he's with Muslims.
Finally, the last straw. He's demanding that before anyone can be in the same room with him, they must sign a loyalty oath.
It's just so horribly creepy!
Can you help?
Signed,
Lost in DC
Dear Lost:
Stop whining, Michelle. You can divorce the jerk any time you want.
The rest of us are stuck with him for two more years!
Thanks, Niki.

This dumbass just made up my mind as to what county I'm NOT retiring to
Watch the first 7 or 8 minutes, see where Megyn Kelly grills him and he pretty much spews his opinion regardless of facts.
Just the kind of man we need in law enforcement.

It's BAT time of the year again
Once again, I take up pursuit of the ever elusive BAT (Big Ass Trout).
For the uninformed, a Rainbow or Brown Trout isn't considered a true BAT until it measures at least 24 inches long and weighs at least 5 pounds. It must also be landlocked, so Steelhead don't count. Lake Trout don't count either because I think them fuckers are born that big.
Our foothill reservoirs are just canyons they've dammed up and they can run as deep as 300 feet. In the summer the BATs hold deep where the water is cool, but in the winter when the lakes "turn" (the temperature of the water is the same both shallow and deep) they come up into the coves to feed and spawn.
I took a year off BAT fishing last year because I was too damned busy shooting at and missing coyotes. In fact, I was having so much fun missing coyotes I didn't even buy a fishing licence.
But this year is going to be different. I'm not only going to miss coyotes and not catch BATs, but I'm going to spend as much time and money as I possibly can humiliating and disappointing myself.
Actually, the BAT fishing pretty much sucks right at the moment because the steady rains we had mucked the water up pretty bad so most of the fish being caught right now are li'l bitty fuckers in the 2-3 pound range that were just planted.
Be prepared for lots of excuses.

WTF?
This comment was left in an online article about driving in heavy fog.
And to think this person is allowed out in public without adult supervision........
Sarah Palin published on her Facebook page a list of twenty Democrats who voted for health insurance reform and who are elected in districts that used to be Republican. Their locations on a map of the United States are marked by crosshairs - a symbol that clearly refers to target practice and violence.
These targeted politicians have received death threats. Their offices and homes and the homes of their family members have been vandalized.
Now a Congresswoman on Sarah Palin’s, signed, “specifically targeted hit list” has had an attempted assassination…
Should Sarah Palin be criminally charged for inciting this lawless action?! Hasn't her "hit list" created a clear and present danger to those that are targeted on it?!
I say YES !!!
“Under certain narrow circumstances, the government can punish or prevent speech when "the words are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent." (Schenck v. United States, 1919). This was translated in 1970 into a legal test that demands criminal speech 1) be directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action" and 2) be "likely to produce such action." (Brandenburg v. Ohio, 1970). As Justice Brandeis pointed out in his concurring opinion on the subject of incitement to violence, "If there is time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the process of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence." (Whitney v. California, 1927).

Concerning the post below:
I think the biggest problem with the liberals trying to find somebody to blame other than the punk-ass shooter is that the Left have a hard time believing that there are people in this country that have the ability and actually do think for themselves.
Blame the shooter. Not Palin. Not Fox News. Not the gun he used. Not the twinkie he ate beforehand. Not his mommy, daddy, or his ex-girlfriend. Blame HIM.

Liberals pointing fingers again
WASHINGTON – The nation's caustic political climate has become a suspect of sorts in the rampage that left six dead and a lawmaker critically injured in Arizona. Already, appeals are being heard to tone down the rhetoric.
The captured suspect's motives remain unknown despite his online diatribes betraying resentment of the government and a scattered state of mind. Still, the attack on Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and those who were with has intensified the scrutiny on how much is too much, and how hot is too hot, in political debate.
Sen. Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democratic leader in the Senate, on Sunday cited imagery of crosshairs on political opponents and Sarah Palin's combative rallying cry, "Don't retreat; reload."
"These sorts of things, I think, invite the kind of toxic rhetoric that can lead unstable people to believe this is an acceptable response," Durbin said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
Hey, you fucking idiots: Those were figures of speech, not literal instructions.
What about the pictures we've all seen of protesters carrying signs that said "Kill Bush"? We didn't hear shit from you then. Or was that okay?

The Washington Nugget
From the Sacramento Bee
Imagine a gold nugget the size of a small fruitcake.
Fred Holabird, a mining geologist, doesn't have to imagine, because a gold prospector brought one into his Reno office in 2010.
Holabird remembers shouting, "Oh, my God!" or something similar, but unprintable in a family newspaper.
"I made some exclamation that was very, very loud," Holabird said Tuesday.
Holabird will auction what is now dubbed the Washington Nugget in March.
The stunning piece of gold was literally turned up from the ground near the town of Washington in Nevada County. It weighs nearly 100 ounces.
Current prices would make that gold worth about $135,000, but Holabird believes that the intact nugget is the biggest California nugget in existence and could be worth as much as $400,000.

A correction and an update
The Arizona Representative that was shot is still alive and her condition is guarded.
Earlier reports that I read had her listed as dead.
Sorry for the mistake.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday when an assailant opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with constituents, killing at least five people and wounding several others in a rampage that rattled the nation.
Giffords was among at least 10 people wounded, and the hospital said her outlook was "optimistic" and that she was responding to commands from doctors. The hospital said a 9-year-old child was among the killed, and a U.S. Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack.
Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin said an unspecified number of her staff members were injured in the shooting. Congressional officials said an aide to the Democrat was killed, and President Barack Obama said five people died in all.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) shot and killed
My deepest sympathies to her husband and the folks she represented.
I don't know anything about her or her policies but nobody deserves to be shot down like a dog.
TUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) – Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona died after being shot in the head while meeting constituents at a grocery store in Tucson, NPR reported on Saturday.
Giffords, a 40-year-old Democrat in her third term in Congress, was shot point blank by an unidentified gunman who fired indiscriminately into the crowd, NPR and other U.S. media said.
About a dozen others at the meeting were shot and the gunman was wrestled to the ground and taken into custody, Fox said, citing an eyewitness.
Giffords was airlifted to a hospital to a hospital after the shooting.
Re-elected in the November 2 election, Giffords focused on immigration reform, military issues, stem cell research and alternative energy while serving in Congress. She was married to U.S. astronaut Mark Kelly.

Hanoi Jane gets her just desserts (without dinner)
The radio station America FM was doing one of its 'Is Anyone Listening?' bits this morning. The first question was, 'Ever have a celebrity come up with the 'Do you know who I am?' routine?'
A woman called in and said that a few years ago, while visiting her cattle rancher uncle in Billings, MT, she had occasion to go to dinner at a restaurant that does not take reservations The wait was about 45 minutes; many ranchers and their wives were waiting.
Ted Turner and his ex-wife Jane Fonda came in the restaurant and wanted a table. The hostess informed them that they'd have to wait 45 minutes.
Jane Fonda asked the hostess, 'Do you know who I am?' The hostess answered, 'Yes, but you'll have to wait 45 minutes.'
Then Jane asked if the manager was in. When the manager came out, he asked, 'May I help you?'
'Do you know who we are?' both Ted and Jane asked.
'Yes, but these folks have been waiting, and I can't put you ahead of them.'
Then Ted asked to speak to the owner. The owner came out, and Jane again asked, 'Do you know who I am?'
The owner answered, 'Yes, I do. Do you know who I am? I am the owner of this restaurant and I am a Vietnam Veteran. Not only will you not get a table ahead of my friends and neighbors who have been waiting here, but you also will not be eating in my restaurant tonight or any other night. Good bye.'
Only in America , is this a great country or what?

Opera Non Verba - Deeds, Not Words
This is truly a joyous occasion for all of us. Basically what happened is We The People let our servants know that we weren't happy with them and the way we let them know is by replacing them.
This wasn't a victory for the Republican Party, it was a victory for We The People. The Republicans just happened to be handy and talking the talk we wanted to hear.
But you Republicans need to listen up - you have 2 years to back up the shit you've been talking. It's not very long.
If you can't back up your mouths, We The People will vote your asses out too. Think I'm kidding? How do you think you got to where you're at?
Two years........
WASHINGTON – Claiming power beneath the Capitol dome, resurgent Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives on Wednesday as the 112th Congress convened in an era of economic uncertainty. Dozens of tea party-backed lawmakers took office in both houses, eager to cut spending and reduce government's reach.
"The people voted to end business as usual, and today we begin carrying out their instructions," said newly elected House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, replacing Democrat Nancy Pelosi and transformed instantly into the nation's most powerful Republican in a new era of divided government.

True confessions
I cracked open a bottle of brandy tonight, the first drink I've had since Thanksgiving.
Funny thing is, I've always been a beer man, but I don't have the slightest craving for beer. Go figure.

The letter below came from a good friend of mine that I worked with up until a few years ago when he quit and went to work for the City, the motherfucker.
I did something I don't usually do for friends (except Woody) and sent him the link to my blog. I don't turn most of my friends onto it because I don't want them reading what I really think of them.
Anyways, this was waiting in my inbox when I got home.
