The 1000 yard coyote

Damn, that's a long shot.
I shoot a crappy ol' Bushnell 3x9 on my 22-250 and I can count the times on 1 hand that I've taken it off 3 power. Missed both times, too.
My shots are pretty much limited to 300 yards tops, due to terrain and my own shooting abilities and at 300, the bullet only drops an inch and a quarter with a 200 yard zero, so I can pretty much just hold dead on to that range. Besides, that 22-250 starts to bleed off pretty rapidly after that.

  1. Damn. I wish I had the time, space & $$$ to practice for that kind of shooting.

  5. Dayummm... 1K with a .243! Gives me renewed interest in LRS with mine.
Interesting he wouldn't handle the mangey 'yote. According to my vet it's a genetic diesease transferred from mother to daughter. Won't transfer to family dogs or males. But I gotta admit, an animal with mange is one gawd-awful lookin' beast.

  6. I stopped on my 'walk around' last March in New Mexico and turned off the freeway up into the hills about five miles.
Set up with a pad, a .308, 4-20 glass, good binocks, a call you pointed me to, and laid on the fuckin hill for three hours.
At 300 hundred yards in a 25mph left to right wind, did I mention the wind was honkin', a big old dog was looking my way on a side on shot.
Squeezed it off and hit a foot high and a foot down wind.
    I hate this game...kinda.

  7. Mange is an infestation of some kind of mite, I do believe. A thorough treatment of some salve is the only cure I know.

  8. .243? DAMN! The only yote I ever shot was at ~200 offhand with a BLR in .243. I'll have to rethink that opp. I was going to dump it for a Ruger Scout....Hmm?
