Stupid dog

Does anybody know how to teach a dog to shake on command?
I keep throwing a bucket of water on CharlieGodammit and hollering "SHAKE" but the dumb motherfucker ain't picking it up for some reason. There's gotta be another way.

  2. Most dogs are dumber than stumps.

I've had pretty good luck with just waiting for the furry little Ewoks to do something spontaneously and immediately praising them while giving the action a name.

For example, I'm sitting in my easy chair, watching the dog look at me like I'm stupid.

She hunches over and starts licking her butt.

"Good, snapper-lapper!" [hands a treat to the dog].

  5. You didn't say which shake you mean, so...

To shake hands: While CGD is sitting, reach down and tickle the hairs on the back of his leg near the foot. He'll instinctively lift his paw. When he does, grab it and say "Shake" Eventually he'll get the hang if it and raise his paw when told to "Shake".

To shake water or dirt off on command, continue to dowse him. When he does shake it off it on his own, simply say Shake. It helps to use a hand signal as well such as rocking your hand back and forth. I taught the stupidest Chocolate Lab on the face pf the earth to do it this way,so it should work for CGD

  7. He shakes paws just fine, I want him to shake his entire body. The water is just pissing him and Lisa off.

He responds to all hand signals better than verbal commands.

  9. I thought shaking water off was a natural doggy response. I had to teach Charlie to NOT shake until she was through the living room and in her laundry room.

  10. I've had 1 dog that was too stupid to shake. You'd bathe her and she'd just stand there. That whole litter was stupid. I had 2 of them and mom had 1. All 3 fucking worthless.

  12. Taught my dog to shake on command, sort of--she loved to chase sticks in the river, and I wouldn't throw the stick until she shook when I told her to. She would cooperate in most things, but for some reason that one would piss her off--she'd bark at me, then twitch a bit (like 2% of a shake) bark more, and finally shake.

On the other hand, sometimes she would bring me a stick, drop it near me and shake without being told.
