From people too squeamish to push through and snip

  1. At age 10 I was 3 miles from home on a deserted ocean beach when I got a 12/0 hook in my thumb. The hook had dug deep and the barb exited the skin. Bleeding profusely I applied compression and began a slow, measured walk back home. I chose not to run as I feared elevating my heart beat.

Light headed when I arrived home my dad saw me as soon as I walked in the door. One look and it's off to the ER. The ER doc cut off the barb and slipped the hook out of my hand. While stitching me up he said I was lucky as the hook had only nicked the radial artery. Even still it was quite the bloody mess.

I'm somewhat proud of my scars. They are like reading exciting chapters of my life. And boy, do I have some stories. That day I thought I would catch a shark on a handline.

    1. GMTA. I recently told someone that my scars are the storyboard of my life. Every one of them has a good story behind it!

  2. Wirecutter - you used to post about fishing when you still lived in California. But I don't recall any written experiences since moving to present location. Do you still fish and if so, any cool experiences ?

    1. I fish very little anymore. I just don't have the time, taking care of my wife. I keep telling myself to make time, but it just doesn't seem to happen.
