Dogs. How could we live without 'em. He said after his GSD mix barked all damn night. I'm sure she was protecting against something. Maybe the neighborhood armadillo.
We have a big lovable GSD. He doesn't usually bark a lot, but one night he went absolutely nuts. I looked all over the property - armed I might add - trying to find out WTF he was so upset about. After about a half hour of this, I finally found it. One of those thin plastic grocery bags had gotten hung up in the next door neighbors shrubs. It was flapping in the breeze and because it was white, in the moonlight it looked for all the world like the ghost of Christmas past out there. I went over and yanked the thing out of the bush and the dog was all right after that. "You got him, boss!" (I love that dog.)
