California will run out of cash by early March if the state does not take swift action to find $3.3 billion through payment delays and borrowing, according to a letter state Controller John Chiang sent to state lawmakers today.
The announcement is surprising since lawmakers previously believed the state had enough cash to last through the fiscal year that ends in June.
But Chiang said additional cash management solutions are needed because state tax revenues are $2.6 billion less than what Gov. Jerry Brown and state lawmakers assumed in their optimistic budget last year. Meanwhile, Chiang said, the state is spending $2.6 billion more than state leaders planned on.

Ranger zaps off-leash dog walker with shock weapon
A Montara man walking two lapdogs off leash was hit with an electric-shock gun by a National Park Service ranger after allegedly giving a false name and trying to walk away, authorities said Monday.
The park ranger encountered Gary Hesterberg with his two small dogs Sunday afternoon at Rancho Corral de Tierra, which was recently incorporated into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, said Howard Levitt, a spokesman for the park service.
Hesterberg, who said he didn't have identification with him, allegedly gave the ranger a false name, Levitt said.
The ranger, who wasn't identified, asked Hesterberg to remain at the scene, Levitt said. He tried several times to leave, and finally the ranger "pursued him a little bit and she did deploy her" electric-shock weapon, Levitt said. "That did stop him."
San Mateo County sheriff's deputies and paramedics then arrived and Hesterberg gave his real name, the park spokesman said.
Hesterberg, whose age was not available, was arrested on suspicion of failing to obey a lawful order, having dogs off-leash and knowingly providing false information, Levitt said.
He was then released. He did not return a phone call seeking comment.
Witnesses said the use of a stun gun and the arrest seemed excessive for someone walking two small dogs off leash.
"It was really scary," said Michelle Babcock, who said she had seen the incident as she and her husband were walking their two border collies. "I just felt so bad for him."
Babcock said Hesterberg had repeatedly asked the ranger why he was being detained. She didn't answer him, Babcock said.
"He just tried to walk away. She never gave him a reason," Babcock said.
The ranger shot Hesterberg in the back with her shock weapon as he walked off, Babcock said.
"We were like in disbelief," she said. "It didn't make any sense."
Rancho Corral de Tierra has long been an off-leash walking spot for local dog owners. In December, the area became part of the national park system, which requires that all dogs be on a leash, Levitt said.
The ranger was trying to educate residents of the rule, Levitt said.
The park service is investigating the incident, he said.

Was readin some of your posts from about a year or so back. You said somethin bout wantin to get an assault type rifle someday. I wanted to get one a few years back too. Got to talkin with some of my Marine buddys on what to get. One of em said, "Honestly? Don't get an AR. They're good when they're good, but damn expensive and really tempermental. The damn things jam just when ya seriously need them, and ya gotta clean the bitch ALL the time. In Iraq, the first thing we'd do was pick up a good AK-47 and all the ammo we could find, layin everywhere, and keep it as a backup for WHEN the AR failed, or we were out of Ammo."

Anyway, I went and got myself a 1976 New, Romey AK-47 for 4 hundred bucks. Put a Nikon 3-9 power Scope on it for $125. Few of the guys at my Range with AR's turned their nose up at me, and made some smartassd remarks about bein a commie puke. All in fun. They sure shut the hell up with I brought back my Target from the 125 yard post. This was shot sittin down, just holdin the gun. No rest, tripod or nothin. I've since zeroed it in even tighter, to about a 3.5" Group, shootin from a sandbag. The Ammo is cheap as shit from Sportsman Guide. Somethin like 1000 rounds for like....$240. Anyway, just thought I'd show ya mine. The .45 is my daily carry piece. It's a Para Ordanance LDA Carry. Have a good weekend.

During his Google+ hangout Pres. Obama tells a woman that her husband shouldn't be unemployed from the growth he has seen in the economy. Obama said he finds it "interesting" because he is getting "the word" that someone in her husband's job field "should be able to find something right away."
Obama offered to do something if she would just send him her husband's resume.

The woman wants to know why Obama is extending visas for foreigners when there is tons of demand for American jobs by Americans.
"I don't know what your husband's speciality [is], but I can tell you that there is a huge demand around the country for engineers," Obama told the woman.
"I understand that," she responded. "But how am -- given the list that you're getting, I mean we're not getting that. You said in the State of the Union address for business leaders to ask what can they do to bring jobs back to America.
During the back and forth between Obama and the wife of an unemployed engineer, Obama asked for his resume.
"Can I ask you what kind of engineer your husband is?," Obama said to the wife of the unemployed engineer.
"He's a semiconductor engineer," she responded.
"It is interesting to me -- and I meant what I said if your send me your husband's resume, I'd be interested in finding out exactly what's happening right there because the word that we're getting is that somebody in that type of high-tech field, that kind of engineer, should be able to find something right away."

Irish is always sending me shit about CharlieGodammit, and the latest exchange is about him and the mailman.

I started typing out a reply to him about Charlie waiting to ambush our mailman but figured it would make a pretty good post so I copied most of it so y'all can enjoy it too.

About an hour before the mailman is due, he takes up his position directly in front of the mail slot. The mail is delivered on foot and across the street first, so the fucking mutt has a pretty good idea where he's at in the neighborhood and how long before he gets to the house.

When he's coming from my psycho neighbor Bruces' house and headed across our yards towards mine, CGD's head goes up and he tenses, ready to spring but not making a sound. As soon as the mailman puts the mail through the slot, CharlieGodammit charges, snarling and snapping and bounces off the wall and shaking the entire house, ripping the mail from the mailman's hand before he has a chance to let go and throwing a couple of barks towards him for good measure.

The mailman gets all freaked out and the cussing in Hindu starts, turbans get all unraveled and shit, and Hari trots off the property, pissed as hell, just to do it again the next day.

This is an everyday thing, I can damned near tell time by it. CharlieGodammit enjoys that almost as he does an (ex)nut rubbing, but I think it kinda sorta gets on the mailmens' nerves, seeing as none of them seem to last more than a couple weeks.

We had tried putting shelves in front of the mail slot hoping that it would discourage CGD, but to him they were just some much appreciated steps.

Now, while I encourage everybody to eat plenty of bacon and I know there's beaucoup dishes with it both as a main feature or a side, I gotta tell ya - I prefer mine fried in hot bacon grease just short of crispy, drained but not completely dry of grease. Gotta keep those bowels loosened up and the skids greased, ya know?
But hell yeah, if you're in that area in April, give it a visit and enjoy some different bacon dishes. If you're lucky you might be able to find some Praline Bacon, but I doubt it would be as good as Woody's wife Daryn's. That stuff rocks. Hint hint.

What a liberal rag this is and the premise will be picked up all across the country by others just like it.

Gov. Jan Brewer likes to cast herself in the tough-leader role - and sticking her finger in President Obama's face and jawing at him makes for a handy visual message to her political base. The editor starts the article by insinuating to the readers that Brewer's actions were premeditated and merely a show for her base, ignoring the fact that, by all accounts, Obama is the one that started the incident. What the rest of the state, along with the nation, sees is boorish behavior from Arizona's top official. How in hell does the writer know that the rest of the state and nation thinks it was boorish? I think a high percentage of the country were probably thrilled to see Brewer stand up to him. The bastard brought it on and the governor stood her ground. Perhaps the president was the boor?

The image, captured by a photographer as Brewer and Obama had what observers described as a tense discussion, gives the impression that the governor is lecturing the president - turnabout, perhaps, as she claims in her new book that Obama lectured her about immigration reform when they met in June 2010 in the Oval Office.

On Wednesday, Brewer handed Obama a handwritten letter, which she described as discussing immigration and inviting him to visit Arizona again and join her for a border tour. By all accounts, he told the governor her book mischaracterized their last meeting. Heated words were exchanged. Reporters nearby described the two leaders talking over each other, and then Obama walked away. Boohoo, how dare anyone discount the word according to Obama?

Brewer, as governor, represents all Arizonans and should act as an ambassador for our state. She was trying to be an ambassador until Obama flaked out from the get go. Obama was in Phoenix to visit a major economic accomplishment - a new Intel plant - and the tiff on the tarmac was graceless. Yeah, Obama is graceless. We know that. Arizona has already taken an economic hit because of publicity surrounding the passage of anti-Latino laws, such as SB 1070. Anti-Latino law? Here all along I was under the impression that 1070 was an anti-illegal immigration law. There is a difference. And let's not forget that Obama/Holder has sued the state over it. Does he expect a parade when he comes to Arizona?

After initially contending that the letter was not a public document because it was a personal handwritten note, Brewer's office released the letter late Thursday afternoon.

It is what one would expect from a governor to a president of another party - mentioning "hard choices" and balanced budgets, while neglecting to mention, however, the high cost Arizona's citizens have paid in recent years through draconian cuts to school funding, health-care coverage for kids of the working poor and more. This may or may not be true, but what does it have to do with the story? Nothing. Just another chance to bash the governor.

Brewer's digital gesticulation got attention, and that's what any politico trying to raise her profile wants - and sales of her memoir have jumped. Here they make the sneaky inference that Brewer did it for book sales/money. I can do that too, perhaps Obama got in her face as a way to court the Hispanic vote.

But Brewer's jab comes at the expense of Arizona's national reputation and image. I like the image of Arizona being sovereign and not willing to take a bunch of guff from Obama and the Feds.

When it comes to traveling with your retriever, the old Boy Scout motto, “Always Be Prepared” is never more applicable.

Each year waterfowl hunters everywhere pack their truck with hunting gear and pull onto the highways to head for a dream hunt or to meet friends in a duck camp. And just before the drive begins, these hunters sometimes suddenly remember to drop the tailgate to let their trusty hunting dogs load up. They hurriedly collect some dog food and perhaps a training collar, and that’s as far as some hunters go in preparing their best friend for the hunt — or for emergencies. That’s a bad decision fraught with possible disasters.
Yes, many waterfowl hunts for hunters and dogs go off without a hitch. The few that require emergency veterinary attention and other assistance, however, often become nightmares that any hunter will not soon forget. But there are ways to avoid the problems, and to create a safe hunting environment for your dog and to put less stress on you and your wallet. Preparation is the first step to successfully overcoming any emergency on a road trip.

Make A Plan

When you’re in a remote area, hunting in another state, or hunting early or late hours when most businesses (including animal hospitals) are closed, any accident involving your hunting dog can rapidly escalate into a near-death or deadly event. Whether it involves being accidentally shot to being injured by a boat motor or vehicle, there’s no time to waste. An hour delay could mean death or permanent disability. Your dog is in trouble — quick, what will you do?
For the standard emergencies, a first-aid kit is the essential first step. You can buy or build your own canine first-aid kit. Gauze, cleaning solutions, bandages and wraps, some useful medicines and other basic medical aids can be obtained at most neighborhood pharmacies. Take a walk down the medical supply aisles and you’ll spot some items that will be very useful when your dog has a medical emergency. It’s also important to consult with your veterinarian about digestible medicines to stock. Some human-oriented foods and drugs can be given to a dog, but if you don’t know for sure, keep it away from him.
While you’re talking with your local veterinary, ask for a printed copy of your dog’s immunizations and medical history. You can also quickly do an Internet search and find veterinary offices and animal emergency hospitals at or near locations you’ll visit on your hunt. Be sure to print maps, office hours and any listed emergency numbers before you depart on your trip and pack these in the canine first aid kit.

Research Your Night’s Stay

Thanks to the Internet, it is also now easy to locate kennels, hotels and lodges that accept pets and will welcome your hunting dog. Make any calls and secure boarding and lodging arrangements before you leave the driveway. Print directions and contact details for several locations in case your best plans don’t work out. Don’t rely solely on Web sites for full details —call the motels and lodges where you plan to stay. It’s important to note that at some locations your dog(s) can stay in the room with you, but at others the dog must be kenneled. For motels that permit pets, ask about restrictions.
When I headed to a hunting trade show recently, a motel referred by the sponsoring group’s Web site indicated it was pet-friendly. Since my two 70-pound Weimaraners were headed to the show, I called and asked questions. It turns out that the motel’s rule limiting the size of dog visitors to 35 pounds would not be bent. My dogs and I lodged elsewhere, but I’m glad I discovered the full details ahead of time. At another motel in Nevada, dogs were welcome. I soon discovered that the dogs, however, were stored in a kennel in the exhaust-filled parking garage area and owners could observe them on the TV set in the room via a camera. The area was not secure, and not clean. My dogs and I again stayed elsewhere.
If you take a kennel or crate and plan to leave any hunting dog in a motel room or the bed of a truck, pack two locks and a coated steel cable to prevent thefts. Lock the kennel door, and the kennel to the truck. Even better for preventing a theft is to place the crate inside a truck bed topper with tinted glass to hide the obvious. Just make sure that about the temperature inside the confined area is tolerable, especially on sunny days. Heat stroke can overtake a dog in minutes.
If your dog will ride in a crate or kennel in the truck’s bed, consider covering that kit during colder weather. One good choice is a cover from Mud River (479-927-2447; www.mudriverdogproducts.com) complete with many pockets for storing dog-related gear. Freezing your dog doesn’t “toughen him up;” it requires him to burn energy to stay warm that he otherwise might put to better purpose while hunting with you. Covered crates also protect dogs from road debris and flying sand or rocks.
If your dog will have to spend a day or night in a commercial kennel, ask for and check references after interviewing the operator. The best kennels now require that you complete forms and deliver (fax or e-mail) records before your arrival. It’s always a good idea to keep your dog’s vaccination records, especially immunization for kennel cough Bordetella bronchiseptic updated. Always carry a copy of the dog’s records in the first-aid kit. Some kennels will not permit dogs without proof of current immunizations, especially rabies.
While you’re back in the motel room, be observant for fleas, crickets and other bugs or spiders. Crickets and some bugs can carry diseases that can quickly make your dog ill. Some places spray and keep motel rooms clean, and some places don’t. While traveling, dogs seem to always be thirsty — but you should never let your dog drink out of a toilet or trashcan. Keep the bathroom door closed and the toilet seat lid down. Motels are known for using harsh chemicals to battle germs, and those that are unclean could also harbor transmittable diseases. A sick dog will ruin any hunting trip, so take precautions.

What used to be Dick Cheney’s hit squad is now a beacon of freedom.
But now of course the president is a Democrat. When Durbin spoke a Republican resided in the White House.

CAIRO: A foreign woman was stripped and sexually assaulted on Wednesday evening in Egypt’s iconic Tahrir Square, one eyewitness said on Twitter and another confirmed in an email to Bikyamasr.com.
The woman, who’s identity has not been revealed, was taken away in an ambulance after being assaulted for 10 minutes. Her husband reportedly was unable to intervene and witnessed the incident.
“I saw the woman and then dozens of men surrounded her and started grabbing her, when she screamed for help some people came, but they were hit in the face,” wrote one witness.
What happened next was “appalling,” said the trusted witness, who asked for anonymity. “The men just started tearing at her clothes and grabbing her body all over. When she fought back, they pushed her. It was chaos.”
There were unconfirmed reports that the men “violated” her with their hands.
The nationality of the woman is unknown at the current time.

“I’m usually accused of not being intense enough, right,” he told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, laughing. “Too relaxed.”
Brewer said in an interview that the president was “somewhat thin-skinned and a little tense, to say the least” and that she was “shocked by the sternness of it all.” The president reportedly raised objections to Brewer’s description of their meeting in June, 2010, when he met her Wednesday.
In her 2011 book, “Scorpions for Breakfast,” Brewer accused Obama of being “condescending” and “patronizing” and complained that she and her aides were treated coldly by White House staffers.
“I think it’s always good publicity for a Republican if they’re in an argument with me,” Obama said of their most recent meeting. “But this was really not a big deal. She wanted to give me a letter, asking for a meeting. And I said, ‘We’d be happy to meet.’
“Last time we met, she wasn’t fully satisfied. But, you know, I think this is a classic example of things getting blown out of proportion.”

LA Military Exercises

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Joint military training exercises will be held evenings in downtown Los Angeles through Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The LAPD will be providing support for the exercises, which will also be held in other portions of the greater Los Angeles area, police said.
Training sites ``have been carefully selected to ensure the event does not negatively impact the citizens of Los Angeles and their daily routine,'' a department official said.
The training, which a department official said would involve helicopters, has been coordinated with local authorities and owners of the training sites, police said.
Police said safety precautions have been taken to prevent risk to the general public and military personnel involved.
The exercises are closed to the public, police said.
The exercises are designed to ensure the military's ability to operate in urban environments, prepare forces for upcoming overseas deployments, and meet mandatory training certification requirements, police said.

The new standards were required by the 2010 school nutrition bill that increased funding for school meals. The new regulations, according to the Department of Agriculture, will:
• Ensure that students are offered both fruits and vegetables every day of the week;
• Substantially increase offerings of whole grain-rich foods;
• Offer only fat-free or low-fat milk varieties;
• Limit calories based on the age of children being served to ensure proper portion size; and
• Increase the focus on reducing the amounts of saturated fat, trans fats and sodium.
The first lady announced the new rules alongside Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and celebrity chef Rachael Ray at an elementary school in Alexandria, Va.

President Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) had what appears to have been an angry exchange of words on the tarmac in Phoenix over her portrayal of him in a book she published late last year.
This is from press pool reports describing Obama’s arrival this afternoon in the city:

He stepped off Air Force One at 3:28 pm and was greeted by Gov. Jan Brewer. She handed him a handwritten letter in an envelope and they spoke intensely for a few minutes. At one point, she pointed her finger at him.
Afterwards, your pooler spoke with the governor.
“He was a little disturbed about my book, Scorpions for Breakfast. I said to him that I have all the respect in the world for the office of the president. The book is what the book is. I asked him if he read the book. He said he read the excerpt. So.”
Asked what aspect of the book disturbed him, Brewer said: “That he didn’t feel that I had treated him cordially. I said I was sorry he felt that way but I didn’t get my sentence finished. Anyway, we’re glad he’s here. I’ll regroup.”

It was clear from the moment they greeted one another that this would not be a run-of-the-mill encounter between the president and a local official. At one point, she was pointing her finger at him and at another, they were talking at the same time, seemingly over each other.
He appeared to walk away from her while they were still talking, and she confirmed that by saying she didn’t finish her sentence.
When Brewer spoke with your pooler, the AP and an NBC producer for several minutes afterwards, she appeared a bit flustered and taken aback by the conversation. Asked if she was, that’s when Brewer said, “I’ll regroup.”

The governor handed the President a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her. The President said he’d be glad to meet with her again, but did note that after their last meeting, a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book. The President looks forward to continuing taking steps to help Arizona’s economy grow.

In her book, titled ”Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America’s Border,” Brewer writes that Obama was “condescending” to her during an June 2010 Oval Office meeting they had to discuss border security.
The meeting occurred after she had signed SB 1070, a state law that toughened enforcement of immigration laws and required law enforcement officers to attempt to determine an individual’s status when there is “reasonable suspicion” they may be an illegal alien.
Brewer wrote that during the White House meeting she sought to explain the situation in Arizona to Obama, but got a lecture instead.
“It wasn’t long before I realized I was hearing the president’s stump speech,” she wrote. “Only I was supposed to listen without talking.”

Nearly three years into President Obama’s first term in office, Michelle Obama finally said something with which I can agree.
At a recent fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election campaign in Providence, Rhode Island, the first lady told her audience:
“We stand at a fundamental crossroads for our country. You’re here because you know that in just 13 months, we’re going to make a choice that will impact our lives for decades to come … let’s not forget what it meant when my husband appointed those two brilliant Supreme Court justices … let’s not forget the impact that their decisions will have on our lives for decades to come.”
This was music to the ears of the small, affluent crowd of admirers who cheered and applauded. But to gun owners, Michelle Obama’s remarks should sound like a warning bell, alerting us to the danger ahead should Barack Obama win re-election and get the opportunity to alter the current make-up of the Supreme Court.
When Americans flock to the polls in 13 months, we will not simply decide which direction our country should take over the next four years. Rather, we will decide whether or not our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms will survive over the next several decades.

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court ruled Monday that police violated the Constitution when they attached a Global Positioning System tracker to a suspect's vehicle without a valid search warrant, voting unanimously in one of the first major cases to test privacy rights in the digital era.
The decision offered a glimpse of how the court may address the flood of privacy cases expected in coming years over issues such as cellphones, email and online documents. But the justices split 5-4 over the reasoning, suggesting that differences remain over how to apply age-old principles prohibiting "unreasonable searches."
The minority pushed for a more sweeping declaration that installing the GPS tracker not only trespassed on private property but violated the suspect's "reasonable expectation of privacy" by monitoring his movements for a month. The majority said it wasn't necessary to go that far, because the act of putting the tracker on the car invaded the suspect's property in the same way that a home search would.
Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority, said that as conceived in the 18th century, the Fourth Amendment's protection of "persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures" would extend to private property such as an automobile.
"The Government physically occupied private property for the purpose of obtaining information. We have no doubt that such a physical intrusion would have been considered a 'search' within the meaning of the Fourth Amendment when it was adopted," Justice Scalia wrote, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Sonia Sotomayor.
Advocates for privacy said that despite the differences, the court's unanimity on the outcome sent a strong message.

What I'm Giving Up in 2012

Big money makes writing about climate change action and gun control a lost cause.

I generally make New Year's resolutions in hopes of becoming a better person — more disciplined, healthier, or, at the very least, less pathetic. Some of these resolutions last until nightfall. Some don't. None ever sees February.
This year, I'm taking a different approach. I'm going to concentrate on giving up things. Not things like smoking — been there, done that. I mean giving up on ideas I have pursued through the years into one blind alley after another.
Ideas like climate change, for example.
You and I both know that the earth is heating up, right? Everybody knows that, with the possible exception of oil executives, the owners of coal mines, and Republican politicians.
Yet no number of hurricanes, droughts, floods, wildfires, melted glaciers, or columns by granola liberals like me has inspired a somnolent Congress to confront the problem.
Why? Money, of course.
If money is the mother's milk of politics (and it is), then the oil and coal industries are the biggest mothers on the block. They own our political system lock, stock, and sleazebag.
As a result, our energy policies are crafted largely by the extraction industries, which care little if at all about global warming, clean water, or breathable air. Meanwhile, the Earth's poorest nations, who sat back for 200 years while the countries known as "the West" burned forests, polluted the air and water, and made a lot of money, now want their turn at the trough.
It's hopeless. Even if we suddenly got serious about the issue, it's probably too late. We've reached a point where the warming already out there is producing a dynamic that will produce more warming.
So I'm giving up on writing about climate change. You can start the next oil spill without me.
I'm also giving up on gun control.

Over the years, I've written I don't know how many columns urging that some control be placed on the sale of weapons that go bang. Dozens probably, possibly even scores of them.

Texas Congressman and current Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul – Sen. Rand Paul’s father – placed a post on Facebook about the news as well. “My son Rand is currently being detained by the TSA at the Nashville Airport,” Ron Paul posted. “I’ll share more details as the situation unfolds.”
Ron Paul adds, via Twitter, that the TSA detained his son “for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner.”
Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook page has a post about the incident too. “Senator Paul is being detained at the Nashville Airport by the TSA,” Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook post reads. “We will update you as the situation develops.”
Sen. Rand Paul’s chief of staff Doug Stafford told The Daily Caller the Senator “was detained by the TSA after their scanner had an ‘anomaly’ on the first scan.”
“He offered to go through again,” Stafford said in an email. “The TSA said he could only have a full body pat down. He would not consent to it. He offered to go through the scanner again. The situation is ongoing.”
Sen. Rand Paul has previously referred to the TSA’s use of full body pat downs as the “universality of insult,” and he called on the agency to end the tactic.

(EUR) — The National Enquirer reports that First Lady Michelle Obama threw a temper tantrum over author Jodi Kantor’s new book, “The Obamas” that alleges that the first lady has diva-like behavior and spendthrift ways.
It is reported that after the book was released, she blamed the White House staff for leaking the information. The Enquirer reports that it all exploded on Jan. 9 when president Obama’s chief of staff Bill Daley suddenly resigned.
A top political source in Washington, D. C. told the Enquirer that Michelle threw a hissy fit when Barack suggested that they spend their winter vacation at Camp David because a Hawaiian vacation would bring more attention to her alleged reckless spending.
The Enquirer is reporting that Michelle blames the president for his inability to control the White House staff and the hurtful gossip they are spreading.
“She’s convinced that his aides have been leaking embarrassing details about her because they believe her extravagant behavior is hurting his re-election campaign,” said the source.
New insights into the alleged extravagant spending are revealed in the book, including an “Alice in Wonderland” party in which actor Johnny Depp in full costume presided over a Mad Hatter’s tea. Kantor, a New York Times correspondent, wrote “there were enormous stuffed animals in chairs and tiered serving plates with treats like bone-shaped meringue cookies.”

ATLANTA (AP) - A judge has ordered President Barack Obama to appear in court in Atlanta for a hearing on a complaint that says Obama isn't a natural-born citizen and can't be president.

It's one of many such lawsuits that have been filed across the country, so far without success. A Georgia resident made the complaint, which is intended to keep Obama's name off the state's
ballot in the March presidential primary.

An Obama campaign aide says any attempt to involve the president personally will fail and such complaints around the country have no merit.

The hearing is set for Thursday before an administrative judge. Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi on Friday denied a motion by the president's lawyer to quash a subpoena that requires Obama to show up.

(Reuters) - When Patty Tegeler looks out the window of her home overlooking the Appalachian Mountains in southwestern Virginia, she sees trouble on the horizon.
"In an instant, anything can happen," she told Reuters. "And I firmly believe that you have to be prepared."
Tegeler is among a growing subculture of Americans who refer to themselves informally as "preppers." Some are driven by a fear of imminent societal collapse, others are worried about terrorism, and many have a vague concern that an escalating series of natural disasters is leading to some type of environmental cataclysm.
They are following in the footsteps of hippies in the 1960s who set up communes to separate themselves from what they saw as a materialistic society, and the survivalists in the 1990s who were hoping to escape the dictates of what they perceived as an increasingly secular and oppressive government.
Preppers, though are, worried about no government.
Tegeler, 57, has turned her home in rural Virginia into a "survival center," complete with a large generator, portable heaters, water tanks, and a two-year supply of freeze-dried food that her sister recently gave her as a birthday present. She says that in case of emergency, she could survive indefinitely in her home. And she thinks that emergency could come soon.
"I think this economy is about to fall apart," she said.
A wide range of vendors market products to preppers, mainly online. They sell everything from water tanks to guns to survival skills.
Conservative talk radio host Glenn Beck seems to preach preppers' message when he tells listeners: "It's never too late to prepare for the end of the world as we know it."
"Unfortunately, given the increasing complexity and fragility of our modern technological society, the chances of a societal collapse are increasing year after year," said author James Wesley Rawles, whose Survival Blog is considered the guiding light of the prepper movement.
A former Army intelligence officer, Rawles has written fiction and non-fiction books on end-of-civilization topics, including "How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It," which is also known as the preppers' Bible.
"We could see a cascade of higher interest rates, margin calls, stock market collapses, bank runs, currency revaluations, mass street protests, and riots," he told Reuters. "The worst-case end result would be a Third World War, mass inflation, currency collapses, and long term power grid failures."
A sense of "suffering and being afraid" is usually at the root of this kind of thinking, according to Cathy Gutierrez, an expert on end-times beliefs at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. Such feelings are not unnatural in a time of economic recession and concerns about a growing national debt, she said.
"With our current dependence on things from the electric grid to the Internet, things that people have absolutely no control over, there is a feeling that a collapse scenario can easily emerge, with a belief that the end is coming, and it is all out of the individual's control," she told Reuters.
She compared the major technological developments of the past decade to the Industrial Revolution of the 1830s and 1840s, which led to the growth of the Millerites, the 19th-Century equivalent of the preppers. Followers of charismatic preacher Joseph Miller, many sold everything and gathered in 1844 for what they believed would be the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Many of today's preppers receive inspiration from the Internet, devouring information posted on websites like that run by attorney Michael T. Snider, who writes The Economic Collapse blog out of his home in northern Idaho.
"Modern preppers are much different from the survivalists of the old days," he said. "You could be living next door to a prepper and never even know it. Many suburbanites are turning spare rooms into food pantries and are going for survival training on the weekends."
Like other preppers, Snider is worried about the end of a functioning U.S. economy. He points out that tens of millions of Americans are on food stamps and that many U.S. children are living in poverty.
"Most people have a gut feeling that something has gone terribly wrong, but that doesn't mean that they understand what is happening," he said. "A lot of Americans sense that a massive economic storm is coming and they want to be prepared for it."
So, assuming there is no collapse of society -- which the preppers call "uncivilization" -- what is the future of the preppers?
Gutierrez said that unlike the Millerites -- or followers of radio preacher Harold Camping, who predicted the world would end last year -- preppers are not setting a date for the coming destruction. The Mayan Calendar predicts doom this December.
"The minute you set a date, you are courting disconfirmation," she said.
Tegeler, who recalls being hit by tornadoes and floods in her southwestern Virginia home, said that none of her "survival center" products will go to waste.
"I think it's silly not to be prepared," she said. "After all, anything can happen."

When I was single I had both a cell phone and a home phone. The cell was for motherfuckers that I wanted to give my number to and the home phone was for motherfuckers that demanded my phone number. I never checked the messages, hell, I think the machine was turned off for the past 6 months.
Anyways, when Lisa moved in, she started trimming unnecessary costs and the home line was at the top of the list.
So now when somebody calls from a strange number and says "Hello, Mr. Lane?" I have to say "You bet" instead of "Depends. Are you a cop?" or my favorite, "Who the fuck are you?"

The towels and washrags in the bathroom that I'm not allowed to use are in the regular towel closet now, but that's only because we're buying new towels and washrags that I won't be allowed to use. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

New dishes, too. We ain't buying one set, we're buying TWO sets. I got a feeling we're going be having a shitload of company.
The only friend that's ever eaten a meal in my house in 20 years is Rick and that's only because the rude bastard stopped by during my supper and wouldn't quit staring at my food until I offered him some so yeah, having dinner guests is going to take some getting used to.

According to the Mexican government, from January through September 2011 2,276 deaths were recorded in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, which borders Texas and New Mexico.
A Nov. 2011 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report states that over nearly the same period – January through October 2011 – 2,177 civilians were killed in Afghanistan, where a U.S.-led war against the Taliban is underway. It did not provide a breakdown of responsibility for that period, but said that in 2010, 75 percent of civilian deaths were attributed to the Taliban and other “anti-government elements.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that President Obama would continue to roll out "We Can't Wait" initiatives under his executive authority throughout 2012, but maintained that the president will "eagerly" work with Congress when possible.
"[Obama] has been talking about the fact that he will use his executive authority to advance the priorities of the American people, and he has been doing that," Carney told reporters during today's press briefing. "He will continue to do that. It is true that the context here is often, we can’t wait for Congress to act, and that will be true throughout the year."
Obama has been criticized in the past for his apparent willingness, and sometimes desire, to circumvent Congress; his unprecedented reinterpretation of the conditions necessary to make recess appointments earlier this month was especially controversial.
Carney emphasized that Obama would like to work with Congress if Republicans wll stop blocking the stimulus program contained in the American Jobs Act. "Where Congress will act, he will eagerly join with them to get the people’s business done," Carney said.

Etta James, the sultry, powerful blues, R&B and jazz singer who infused her work with a depth of emotion culled from hard-fought experience, died today in Riverside, Calif. She was 73. In 2010, Ms. James was diagnosed with leukemia. The singer also suffered from hepatitis C and dementia and spent two weeks in the hospital earlier this month.
Ms. James is best known for her 1961 hit “At Last,” which is the definitive version of the oft-covered classic. Though her career was marked by fits and starts, she continued to record throughout the years; her ’90 disk “Seven-Year-Itch” is among her overlooked masterworks. Her ’93 release “Mystery Lady: Songs of Billie Holiday” is a loving tribute to one of her influences – though on the disk the always-bold Ms. James doesn’t surrender to Ms. Holiday’s distinctive style. She earned a Grammy as a Jazz Vocalist for the Holiday tribute, one of six she received from the recording academy.
Ms. James was born Jamesetta Hawkins in 1938 in Los Angeles. After moving to San Francisco in 1950, she formed a doo-wop trio and shortly thereafter met singer, composer and producer Johnny Otis, who, coincidentally, died last Tuesday. In 1955, as a member of the Peaches, she had a top hit on the R&B charts with “Wallflower (Dance with Me, Henry),” Otis’s sly reply to Hank Ballard’s “Work with Me, Annie.” A year later, as a solo act she toured with Little Richard and later with Johnny “Guitar” Watson.
Her best-known work came during her stint with Chess Records. Her ’61 album “At Last!” illustrated her versatility: In addition to the title track, it also included the jazz ballads “Stormy Weather” and “Sunday Kind of Love” as well as Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” popularized by fellow Chess artist Muddy Waters. In ’68, she had a memorable hit with “I’d Rather Go Blind.”
Her career was halted by a crippling addiction to heroin that led briefly to a life of crime. Though she is said to have kicked heroin in the mid ‘70s – as part of a plea agreement, she was sentenced to a drug treatment center instead of prison – Ms. James continued to fight against the temptation of drugs for much of the remainder of her adult years. Her tumultuous personal life was depicted in her 2003 autobiography “Rage to Survive” as well as in the ‘08 film “Cadillac Records,” in which she was portrayed by Beyoncé. Despite her rocky road, Ms. James’ talent rarely wavered.
Etta James is member of the Rock & Roll, Rockabilly, Blues and Grammy halls of fame and is honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.

President Obama blames the press for creating the image that he's aloof and disconnected from the rest of Washington, insisting in a new interview that he's just more interested in spending time with his family than in exchanging pleasantries with strangers.
"My suspicion is that this whole critique has to do with the fact that I don’t go to a lot of Washington parties and, as a consequence, the Washington press corps maybe just doesn’t feel like I’m in the mix enough with them, and they figure, well, if I’m not spending time with them, I must be cold and aloof," Obama said in an interview with Time Magazine released Thursday.
"The fact is, I’ve got a 13-year-old and 10-year-old daughter. And so, no, Michelle and I don’t do the social scene, because as busy as we are, we have a limited amount of time, and we want to be good parents at a time that’s vitally important for our kids."

DETROIT (WWJ)- A dog in the Clinton Township area was the victim of a deadly coyote attack this past week.
A pack of coyotes are reportedly to blame in an attack that killed Julie Wickwares’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Duffy. Wickwares let her dog out at six in the morning last week and a few minutes later saw her dogs bloodied body.
“Within ten minutes I went out to see where he was and I found him in the backyard,” Wickwares said. “I saw the coyote about 20 feet away.”
She rushed her dog to the veterinarian, but Duffy died of a broken neck.
Wickware says her daughter is devastated and her grandchildren are scared as well.
“My 5 year-old grandson won’t even go outside without two adults next to him,” Wickware said. “He’s afraid they’re gonna get him.”
Wickware is warning her neighbors to keep an eye on their pets and not leave them outside alone.
Another persons cat in the area is missing as well. Coyotes see cats as prey, but the experts say they don’t usually attack dogs unless it’s an offensive attack.
The Department of Natural Resources says coyotes are known to fear people. According to the DNR’s website, the coyote population is on the rise.
Coyotes are also in the middle of breeding season which runs now through March.

A few years ago I was going through a divorce and one of the things I had to do was list all of my assests. I mean, they wanted me to list everything I had that was of any value.
So I sat down and listed my vehicle, tools, fishing gear, most of my guns, everything that I owned that might be worth anything.
As I was sitting there going over shit in my mind, wondering what I might have left out, I spotted my 13 year old coonhound laying in the middle of the floor, snoring and farting and enjoying his comfortable old age.
You want everything of value to me? Fine, motherfuckers.
Item: One each old hound dog. Value: Priceless some days, absolutely worthless other days.
The paralegal typed it up that way and the judge must've been a dog lover because she laughed out loud at my next hearing.

While doing an internet search for pictures of my classy White Trash catagory, I ran across this one.

While I know that being White Trash is the new fad, it has to be done right to be effective and these folks have it all wrong. Let me point out their mistakes.

1) Their clothes are new.

To be pure WT, it helps if you buy your attire at a thrift shop. There is nothing wrong with wearing other people's clothes. The classier WT will wash the clothes after purchasing them but it's not required. The young man in the overalls is particularly offensive - not only are his overalls brand new, but he's wearing a T shirt under them.

2) No grease stains.

Whether it be on the body or the clothing, there has to be grease stains somewhere.

3) The setting appears to be in a suburban setting.

No self respecting WT would allow his picture to be taken anywhere other than in a field, near a body of water, in a forest, at a gun range, saloon, or jailhouse.

4) No tobacco products in use. No cigarettes, Copenhagen, Skoal, or cigars.

5) While it does appear that they are drinking beer, they are drinking from cans which are totally useless as weapons, even when full. Trust me, I know.

6) Headgear. The two in the rear have it right, the two that are seated need to crumple their hats up and dirty 'em up a little. Puking in them wouldn't hurt.

7) No women in cutoffs and tit tops in the picture. Gotta have 'em.

8) No facial hair. Mustaches and/or goatees are required. Females are excused from this requirement if necessary.

9) No weapons worn or displayed. When posing for a picture, this is a must for all males. It can be a gun or a knife (even in a sheath) but there must be at least one weapon in the picture.

10) No vehicles. THERE MUST BE A VEHICLE SOMEWHERE IN THE PICTURE!!!! It can be a muscle car, a quad, tractor or pickup, but there must be a vehicle in a posed picture. One more thing - it must be American made. No Toyota pickups. Period.

11) There is not a single soiltary dog in the picture. Not only is there not a dog, I can't spot a single pile of dogshit on the lawn.

12) While alcohol appears to be in use, I don't see anybody that is even close to passing out or puking.

And finally:

13) Tattoos. I see 10 bare arms in the picture and no tattoos. And while tattoos with colors fill the requirement, the best ones would be either prison or homemade tattoos with no colors at all.

Okay, I hope that these tips help out. If you wanna be White Trash, be White Trash, not Wannabe White Trash.

WASHINGTON - Two smoke bombs were apparently thrown over the White House fence as an "Occupy" protest grew feisty Tuesday evening, FOX News Channel reported.
The White House was put into partial lockdown as a result, after the devices were found on the North Lawn.
"Smoking objects" were found "near the North Portico," an agent told Politico, although few other details were given. The Secret Service deployed a robot to check them out, FOX reported.
Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie told FOX that officers were working with Park Police to investigate.
