Cops Fired for Inaction in Parkland Shooting Get Jobs Back, Vacation Pay

Two of the police officers who lost their jobs over inaction during the deadliest school shooting in American history have gotten their jobs back, with back and vacation pay.

Arbitrators reinstated them and could do the same for a third officer as well. Federal Judge Keathan Frink affirmed the arbitrators’ decisions in a May 13 ruling, the Associated Press reports.

  1. There seems to be an awful lot of "sorry, but you did not take action in a timely manner" excuses popping up as reasons for letting bad actions or results stand.

  2. Nobody truly represents the public in these kind of arbitrations. I don't know if these officers deserve reinstatement or not. I suppose they could have been just part of a general "blame everyone involved" type investigation.
But the end result is always some version of compromise in order to avoid a court trial of some sort. No one is looking out for the citizens and their schoolkids. And they are just playing with taxpayer money, so the arbitrators don't care. Classic.

  3. It’s what cowardly cops dream of
Their hands in the taxpayers pockets.

  4. The report has good examples of why they're referred to as "Broward's Cowards".

    1. oh yeah, NYC transit cops locked themselves in the motorman's cab, while some vicious machete work was going on... their job was protecting the "general public safety, not the safety of individuals... Then they fried Bernhard Goetz for defending himself in the absence of police protection

  6. These 'fine officers' should be permanently assigned to outside foot patrol duties at the local sewage treatment facility to ensure that no felonious types steal the $hit before it is treated!

  7. Why is it that cowards always seem to be rewarded and responsible people get fucked

  9. Of course. Did anyone ever really think these would be permanent?
Permanent firings are for the little people, the hoi polloi, the serfs.
Not for the lords & masters and their enforcers.

  10. Geeze. As a Federal Protective Office I was explicitly told I was to buy time for others to secure the installation. If that time was bought with my life ... well, that's the job.
I'd like to think this Coward of Broward would be socially ostracized for his actions but his fellow deputies will probably praise him for "beating the system."
UFB ... but it's happened and all too believable.

  12. Commendations, medals and a pay raise, don't forget commendations, medals and pay raises!!!
Bump that up to Combat pay, I'm sure they've developed PTSD.

  13. I said this every single place it was discussed back when this happened - they cannot be fired for that. The Supreme Court (and others) have ruled countless times that the police have no duty to protect you or anyone else. They are under no legal obligation to risk their lives or personal safety to save you. You are on your own.

They exist to enforce the law, and aren’t going to do that in most cases if it exposes them to risk. They serve the political class, and enforce their will, nothing more.

    1. Isn't shooting students and teachers prohibited by law? Seems like preventing additional crimes would follow under 'enforce the law'.

    2. The Supremes are fuckwits in this matter. FDLE got it right.

'A report by a Florida state commission that examined the Parkland shooting argued that in certain circumstances police officers have a legally enforceable 'obligation to pursue.'

'Any law enforcement officer—regardless of rank—who arrives at the scene of an active shooter while shots are still being fired has an obligation to pursue the sound of those gunshots and confront the shooter,' the report stated."

  14. Put them on midnight desk duty until they quit on their own and take away their firearms. No residents of any city deserve cops who don't do shit.

    1. Yeah, might as well give 'em a few more years on the force to bump up those retirement benefits.

  15. The only good to come out of that whole example of cowardice is the the chief, one Scott Israel, was fired by the governor, sued to get his job back & lost. His current job is monitoring red light cameras for a contracted company.
As an aside, former chief Israel was roundly and soundly hated and disrespected by his cops long before the school incident.

  16. Just think of the checks these cops are getting- back pay from when they got fired, they'll never have to work again lol

  17. Pity Office Chauvin wasn't at the school in Florida and the Broward coward wasn't called to check on a suspicious black male in Minneapolis...
The rest of us would have been spared a whole lot of grief.

  18. What needs to happen to these cowards is simple. Not legal, but simple.

  19. The consequences of union representation and union contract. Arbitrators and judges typically are biased against 'management'. Sorry to have to tell the truth. The other truth is most of management refuses to enforce the contract and thus screw up. Seems in this case, management screwed up. I realized this after two years working in management at a union site, never worked as part of management in a union environment ever again. There is more to life than playing games
