We went to the field one time on a survey shot which was basically just to see if that site was suitable for future field problems, so it didn't require the full company, just the tower team, a few radio operators and a couple guys to use as grunt labor.
When we went out on survey shots, German farmers in the area would stop by and offer to trade with us, food and beer for mogas or C Rations, shit like that. This shot wasn't any different.
I had to run to another site to borrow something and went I got back, one of the guys says, "Here, check out what we scored!" and pulls me around to a trailer. It was full of cases of beer.
"What did you swap for that?" I asked.
"Our food."
"All of it?"
"Yup, uh-huh."
We spent the next two weeks with beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I gained 5 pounds.
