I count the number of pills in the bottle I get from the pharmacy. I count to the tenths the gallons when I fuel up. Then reconcile that to time tested mpg. I count the number of people, horses, cattle, 'things' in a photograph. Then estimate the square footage of said photograph.
I count just about everything. Its never from boredom; its always towards accuracy. Accuracy in rapid estimation, accuracy in provisions; always accuracy.
Someone once questioned ow I could be so sure of elevation of yonder hill, or altitude of an aircraft, or velocity of a thing, or number per space. Because I count. I estimate. Then count again to qualify my estimation. Then likely count again. Don't think it OCD, think it as a base for knowledge. F'instance, I am pretty confident in estimating distance, or height, or speed, or head.
Many years ago, I found that if you were to perfectly shuffle cards and cut the deck exactly in half and then repeat, the deck will eventually return to the original stack. I believe it was 6 shuffles, but it might be 8. (I did it by hand on a night I was board.)
That's strangely satisfying for someone with severe OCD. However, since the beans aren't all aligned in the same direction it kind'a spoils the symmetry.

But yea, this bean counter was likely bored.
Sounds like a lot of time counting. My estimator is fucked from ever more powerful glasses these last few years.
