Daaaamn.....

Rivian R1T owner Chris Apfelstadt experienced an unexpected financial shock after a seemingly minor rear-end collision in February. Although the damage appeared limited to the rear bumper, the repair costs escalated to $42,000 when he took his vehicle to a certified Rivian Automotive Inc. repair shop. This repair bill is particularly surprising considering that the starting price of a brand-new Rivian Automotive Inc. R1T is around $73,000.

  1. Saw one of them electric trucks at rhe campground Memorial weekend. The 4 "mountain biker guys" in it were so happy to show off the storage space under the hood at their site.

    Seemed pretty gay to me.

  2. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Kind of crazy that the article is written in a sympathetic tone towards both the manufacturer, the dealer and the bozo that seems happy with his piece of crap $72,000 pickup and it's $42,000 repair bill.

  3. Accident repair costs for most EVs are quite expensive, even for damage that would be easily and comparatively cheaply fixed if it were an ICE vehicle. Certainly Tesla owners have been finding that out the hard way, with their cars totaled for damage that would be fixed if it were a 'regular' car.

  4. This guy would be singing a way different tune if his damages were not covered by insurance.

    1. Hopefully, the insurance premium on those things are hefty enough to not be covered by the rest of us driving ICE vehicles! It's bad enough that my inland house insurance rates are helping cover beachfront homes here in FL!

    2. It says in the article that it was paid for by the other driver's insurance. I'm terrified of what this is going to do to my liability insurance.

  5. $42,000 would be a heavy hit for a Joe 6pack, but for the average hug a tree Liberal not so bad. So once you factor in the "My Green EV machine is saving the planet" the cost is worth every Carbon credit.

  6. I've seen a few of them around Kommiecticut and agree with commenter MN Steel, they are gay. But then I think the same of Honda Ridgelines.

I'll stick with my Toyota Tundra

Premiums go up, for worthless eaters, because "no fault" insurance is COMMUNISM.

  9. Traveling down the highway during rush hour, traffic stacked up quickly and everybody came to a screaming stop. Well, almost everyone. The guy behind me rammed his non-descript medium sized front-wheel-drive sedan into the back of my stopped '82 Dodge D150 going at least 50. The impact pretty much destroyed his car. The engine was literally in the passenger seat of the vehicle. I think he scratched the paint on my bumper. There wasn't a lot of paint left, but what was there looked scratched. Maybe knocked a little rust off. I drove home, he had to wait for a tow. New trucks today ain't built like that anymore.
