As an adult I've always had cats and dogs. They all always got along just like that. However, a stray cat or dog come in the yard my dog and cat were after their asses.
We’ve got two dogs and a cat. They all get along just fine. Their relationships between species are a lot more complex than we give them credit for being.
We had a grumpy old cat who loved being an only pet, the other cats got old and died. We brought a rescue dog home and the cat was pissed. The dog just walked up to him and licked his face then investigated the house. The cat fucked with him a couple more times and the dog calmly corrected him. Within 3 months the cat would sleep curled up with the dog.
