PA Bill Requires Gun Shows to Copy IDs and Provide Info to State

Representative Amen Brown (D-10) has introduced a new bill (former HB 1563) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania legislature requiring anyone attending a gun show to show an ID. The gun show promoter must make a copy of the ID and keep it for five years. If the bill passes, they also must turn over those records to the Office of the Attorney General, any county prosecutor, or municipal police department upon request. There are no limitations as to why they can request the data.

  1. It's getting harder and harder to find a safe state outside of Florida. My vacations consist of travel through the gulf (of America) to Texas and back.

  2. bullshit. any time you buy a weapon at a "gun show" you have to pass a background check
if you buying it from a dealer. private sale is a different matter. most of them happen outside of the show in the parking lot. or did. it been a while since I went to one. dave in pa.

    1. How is Joe HasATable at the gun show supposed to sign into the NICS system without a dealer login?

    2. From the way I read it you don't have to buy a gun at the show, but you do have to produce an I.D. that will be copied just to get in the door.

  3. Given the fact that the two latest attacks used vehicles instead of firearms, the bill should be amended to include auto dealerships too.

  5. Amen Brown appears to be a product and representative of Philadelphia. Don’t know much about modern Philly, but they aren’t voting red there. I wonder how many shootings by / of his constituents involve guns purchased from gun zones? I’m guessing it’s a number close to zero.

  6. Does anyone besides Amen Brown (D 10) really think that the punks who are killing each other in Philadelphia are buying their guns at Gun Shows?

Also when you think it though, of what possible use is this information? Someone shoots someone. You research these records and discover that the killer attended a gun show four years ago. So what? Does it provide evidence that the gun used was purchased at the show? If so, so what?

    1. We really need to accept that laws like this have NOTHING to do with crime control and EVERYTHING to do with harassing law-abiding citizens and with documenting gun owners for future reference.

Our naivety is our undoing. We somehow persist in thinking that these politicans are concerned with crime when it is quite obvious they are NOT.

  10. PA: eliminating both the 1stA and 2ndA, freedom of association and right to armed defense (because such actions do nothing to halt violent criminals nor the black market)...what's PA planning?
