Register Cliff, Wyoming – Historic Guestbook on the Plains
A large sandstone cliff located near Guernsey, Wyoming, Register Cliff is a chalk-like outcropping that rises some 100 feet above the floor of the North Platte River Valley. Also called Register Rock and Sand Point Station, thousands of pioneers camped here and inscribed their names upon the sandstone while traveling along the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails.

Great article, I will never understand why people vandalize historical places like this.. How braindead can someone be to not recognize and respect places like this..

We used to fly medivac helicopters out of Gurnsey back in the day.
ReplyDeletePT always included a run out to Register Cliffs and back.
Look up the wagon ruts near there if you get a chance.
That was interesting seeing that. There are wagon ruts near me, at the top of the ridge above where the Emigrant Trail comes out of Bear Valley in Nevada County, California.
DeleteThe ruts used to be pretty deep, but the kids like to drive their pickups over those rocks so it's only a matter of time before they're hard to spot. It's about a mile off of a state highway next to a dirt county road. It's pretty neat to see when you know what you're looking at.
