In Norway, small homemade stills are also somewhat common due to the price of alcohol, but the ones I've seen look so well made and immaculate that they reminded me of professional installations. The stores there sell little bottles of flavoring (scotch, rum, gin, etc.).
I knew a former Russian soldier once, the shit they did to drink was fucked up. They would put a metal rod outside in below zero weather and stir cheap perfume to get everything but the alcohol to freeze and stick to it. They'd have fragrant piss afterward. Something else with glue that would make it so they didn't shit for days.
Correct. For the beginner, just use sugar. Then there is no chance of making methanol. There are 50 or more good YouTubers to walk anyone through the process.
"Earlier this week, prosecutors sentenced two people to almost a decade in prison for manufacturing and selling a counterfeit cider drink that killed 50 people in 2023."
Wow, almost a decade. They're really cracking down in Russia.
I went to yekaterinburg back in 2008 during the May day celebration. We were at a lake that still had ice floating off-shore. I saw a Russian soldier stumble down the large boulders, on the shore. Trip, bouce his head off a big one. Dunk his head in the cold water. Bounce his head off another boulder and stumble back to the party. Damn son
When distilling alcohol it is important to toss the first fraction of each batch (the heads) because it contains concentrated toxic stuff like methanol. Obviously in some places scummy people sell the heads and kill people. The boiling point of methanol is about 64.7°C (148.5°F). That is significantly lower than the 78.37°C (173.1°F) boiling point of ethanol.

ReplyDeleteBetter than pressure cookers with a pickle-bottle thumper and a worm in a kitty litter bucket?
DeleteYeah, these were tidy masterpieces in stainless, brass, and copper.
DeleteOver there, they call it "cognac"...

It's not hard to make booze, even good booze.Someone here is either cutting corners to boost profits, or is deliberately poisoning people.
