My rifle

My Mini-14 in it's sexy new camo stock from Hogue.
And for the curious, on the shelf behind it is a stone war club head, some Indian grinding pestles, a couple arrowheads, some obsidian, square nails, a crucible and the red rock is gold ore. Bottom shelf is books and my spotting scope in it's case. To the right of the cabinet is a bipod for my coyote rifle and my coyote pack.

  1. Nice looking rifle, very sexy Wirecutter. Hope you get to use it soon and post some pictures for us. It's always entertaining to read your stories :-)

  3. What are you using for a spotting scope? I had a Vortex, but it didn't have enough eye relief for me, so I dumped it on eBay.

  4. Is that a first edition "Little Women" I see amongst the books on the left? I always knew you were the scholarly type, though you probably picked it up thinking it was a book on midget porn.

  6. Georgia Templar sez...to prevent your mini14 from stringing shots... every 4th round or so. Buy your self a acru strut which bolts on flange. You can also get the laser imbedded in it. Gurantees to keep your shot groups tight. Sure helped mine.

  7. Thanks, Georgia Templar, I'll do that. Haven't had the stringing problem yet, but I do need to tighten up that 3 MOA group.

Drjim - It's a Leopold - got it on sale at Big5 sporting goods.

  9. Very nice. About the accustrut type device. On the downside they do add to the weight and snag factor. Mine didn't really help my mini, but I've read that everyone's result vary.

  10. Thanks, Ken.
There's a Big5 a couple of miles from here. I'll go check them out.

  11. Thanks to both of you for your views on the strut. I'll do some reading up on it, probably buy it and then chuck it in the closet with the 3-4 rifle scopes, half dozen sets of stock handgun grips, a couple of rifle stocks, scope side mount for an M-14 I don't own, and a fucking milk crate full of gun parts and tampons. Oh yeah, there's also a gun safe in there along with my web gear. And both of my button down formal (non-camo) shirts.

  12. tampons? for when you're feeling bitchy?

  13. No, tampons because I was a Boy Scout. Be Prepared.

  14. Georgia Templar sez... Ruger also sells 30 rd mags...you might have to buy em in AZ. I noticed your mini has the tapered barrel... The Acustrut was made for the older minis (thinner pipes) tended to string more when they got hot. I really didn't get into prepping until Odumbo came along. Now, I follow you and am All In. Bought a gun safe and have it loaded with ammo and the guns that use em. No bug out bag... because I plan to hunker down..

  15. I had a mini 14 ranch rifle that starting with the second shot would string 10 shots verticaly for 18 inches at 100 yards. Traded for a "modern sporting rifle" aka AR-15 and never looked back. Good luck with that nice looking carbine!
