My dad's uncle, the late Stanley Brayovich of Detroit, was the very first American to be convicted of drunk flying. Dive bombing his girlfriend's house. He flew 48 B-24 bombing missions over Europe in WWII and was even shot down over Ploesti but managed to evade capture.

The original Ironman triathlon was conceived during a bar room argument about endurance sports. Not quite as good a story as this one though.

DeleteAugust 1947 was his conviction. He had to pay a $200 fine and consideration of his war service was given in the sentencing.
