A British Army Captain once explained that Britain's selection of the color red was done in the event soldiers' were shot and bleeding..that the bloodstains would not be quite as dramatic. It would allow soldiers to continue to fight.
He further explained that France used the same logic in determining that their soldiers should wear brown uniforms.
