At least 18 dead after tornadoes rip through the South

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Severe weather has swept across the South, killing at least 18 people and damaging hundreds of homes from Louisiana into the Appalachian Mountains. Many people spent part of the night early Monday sheltering in basements, closets and bathroom tubs as sirens wailed to warn of possible tornadoes.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee area and several counties in northwest Georgia appeared to be particularly hard-hit. At least 14 people were hospitalized in the Chattanooga area, where search and rescue teams from at least 10 fire departments were going door to door responding to more than 300 emergency calls for help, the fire department said.

Our weather here wasn't really all that bad. We had thunderstorms that came in waves - it would rain like hell for a little while, then calm, then more rain. We totaled 1.8" of rain according to the TVA website.
The last thunderstorm rolled through about 3 this morning. I woke up to it booming and my bed shaking and I was wondering "What the fuck?" and then I realized it was that asshole Jack trying to crawl underneath it.
I swear, that dog is absolutely fearless with most things, but the sound of thunder makes him almost catatonic. He can sense a thunderstorm hours in advance to the point that I call him my Weatherdog.
