A Northern California man has been arrested on suspicion of raping and killing a woman four decades ago after investigators used an advanced search technique to identify the suspect through DNA of possible family members.

  1. Family DNA a close match and he lived next to the victim, OK. What I'm wondering about is when the DNA from a family member is close but no other links to the victim are present, or there are multiple possible members of the family with similar DNA. In the end there would need to be a test of that individuals DNA, involuntary by court order if necessary.
    I wonder how much 'wiggle room' there is in the DNA matching process? I've read some other articles that indicate that it is not as precise as they would have you believe.

  2. While I am glad to see a rapist/ murderer caught, I have concerns about the invasion of privacy. It should require a warrant for each search, meaning each individual file in the DNA databank.
