Red Cross: Violent video games violate international law

Tens of millions of virtual warriors in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield have drawn the attention of the Red Cross, one of the world’s foremost bodies in upholding international humanitarian law during and after real-life conflicts.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is officially sanctioned under the Geneva Conventions to apply those founding principals of international conflict, as well as the Hague Conventions governing international justice. The organization is currently investigating whether these foundations of international law should be applied to video games as well.

  1. Red Cross. When your house burns down they will show up to sell you a cup of coffee.

  2. The Red Cross should stick to what they're good at. Getting involved in this controversy 1. isn't in their baliwick and 2. will drain $ that should be going to people in need while fighting large corporations with deep pockets. This a no win for them.

    1. Red Cross was corrupted a long time ago. This endeavor is their balliwick, it is all about creating new income streams. It is all about the money. For decades I have been telling everyone to not give one cent to the Red Cross. And that is rather unfortunate. Give to Salvation Army or Samaritan's Purse.

  3. Remember when they used a bunch of the funds raised after 911 for other stuff instead of 911 relief

  4. Perhaps the Red Cross can address this for starters:

  5. I remember the 9-11 fiasco. I sent them money just to help the people in New York and they spent it on something else. Have not sent them any thing since.

  6. It used to be the only thing I gave the Red Cross was blood, now I also give them the finger.

I do wonder who's going to enforce this bit of idiotic International Law!.

  7. when my dad came back from vietnam, the red cross was selling coffee and donuts. when they realized no one had any money, they threw the donuts into the harbor and dumped the coffee and left.

the salvation army came and were giving away coffee, donuts, and a handshake with a "welcome home"

the red cross doesn't get a dime from me. ever.

Padawan has her own stories, I'll let her tell 'em.

  8. Red Cross: In WWII they charged service members in Pacific arena for care packages sent by Americans that Americans thought would be free to the soldiers. This is not a old wives tale. I heard this from my uncle who was a top turret gunner and engineer on B17's and B29's. He also was a combat photographer who took pictures of the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. He had a lot of stories about the war in the South Pacific.

  9. My dad was in WW2 as an officer and the Red Cross was giving stale donuts and weak assed coffee to the enlisted guys and steak dinners to the officers. My dad said he refused the dinner and would eat stale donuts and crappy coffee with the boys. He never gave a red cent to Red Cross after for donations or give blood. He would only give blood to American Heart Association or, a local blood bank. Working with Baptist Relief crews in the South after hurricanes and flooding, I wouldn't either.

  10. Tornado ripped through a Midwest region when I lived nearby. The Red Cross sent a person to 'assess' the situation. A local congregation was a distribution point for the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief effort headquartered in Tennessee. They had a semi-truck loaded with water, clothes, and other immediate need items arrive shortly after the Red Cross rep showed up.
    Which would you prefer?
By the way, the Red Cross rep ordered the national guard unit to not allow the truck to enter the area. So several locals unloaded the truck into cars, vans, and pickup; then drove back roads into the area and distributed the supplies.
Afterwards, the guard unit apologized for the mistake - the Red Cross never did.

  11. FUCK the red cross with a rusty chainsaw. I've delivered equipment to many disaster areas and I've seen over and over how the bastards do things. I've also seen over and over how the Salvation Army does things. The Salvation Army is an honorable and compassionate org. and that's who gets my bucks. Oh, did I mention FUCK the red cross?
