US restaurants expect big changes when their doors reopen

The days of standing shoulder-to-shoulder at a bar or sharing a meal at a table for 10 are gone for now — and could take a long time to return even after the coronavirus pandemic ends.

U.S. restaurants are thinking ahead to a time when their dining room doors reopen to a changed world. Owners say there may be physical differences, like masked waiters, disposable menus or fewer tables so patrons can sit farther apart. There will be signs explaining cleaning procedures and glass dividers to protect cashiers. Disinfectant wipes might sit next to napkin dispensers.

  1. And that is a restaurant I will not be patronizing. It goes back to what is was or I don't spend my money. Vote with my wallet. Cuz, then said restaurants are gonna charge out the kazoo for safetyyyyyy.

  2. "Please, Sir, may I take your temperature?" Can I expect sincere "Please" and "Thank you?" Not likely. Will I allow a non-professional somebody I don't know to take my temperature? Nope. Only my wife or a certified health professional may do that. The temperature thing is the most intrusive. Tables farther apart? I don't like people restaurant-close anyway. Masks and gloves on waiters/waitresses second-worst idea. Guess I'll just keep bunkered down until things get back to normal.

    1. Look for someone to come out with an infrared scanner that will take your temperature as soon as you walk in the door. Then various governments will make it mandatory for restaurants to have them.

And they already have one for 2 grand.

    1. "Step out of line the man come and take you away." That part is happening now with mayors, county commissioners and governors doing whatever they damn well please. It's not paranoia if somebody is really after you.

  5. On the other hand, I typically avoid eating in public, let alone any of the slop troughs, for this very reason. People are nasty. Guys and gals, how often have you been in a public restroom and the other person in there does their business and leaves without washing their hands? Yak. And do you think the sign that states, "Employees must wash hands, blah, blah..." is followed or enforceable? LOL!

  6. Restaurants are my #1 customer (food distribution)... those buildings are designed down to the SQUARE INCH to maximize tables and thru traffic. This is not trivial in the least... another industry fucked by the kung flu.

  7. Yea restaurants are fucked for eatin. And what if you open inside dining and someone sneezes? How are people going to eat through a mask? What if you touch someone with the thermometer that you are not licensed to use on others; This aint commie china? There wont be enough traffic with decreased seats to warrant cutting the damn lights on.....seriously!
