OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma elementary graduation upset a neighbor who claimed the celebration was too loud and the noise needed to stop.

The last day of class at Santa Fe South Spero Elementary School in south Oklahoma City looked different this May. The school’s administration organized a drive-by summer send-off party for nearly 500 students.

Albert, who has lived directly across the street from the school for about a year, took a marker and cardboard and made his own sign.

“It said shut the [expletive] up,” said Albert, who placed the sign in his front yard where everyone could see.

Shit, I never even heard of an elementary school graduation up until a few years ago. When I was a kid there was no fanfare, no feel-good celebrations, no snowflake ceremonies, we just moved up from 6th to 7th grade. The only difference was we went from beating 5th grader's asses to having our asses beat by 8th graders.

  2. At the end of my step-daughter's Kindergarten year in the early '90's, they held a "Graduation".

  3. Well, back in my day.... 1962 I 'Commenced' from the 6th to 7th grade and we had a formal Commencement' exercise in our grade school gym. This was in the Denver, CO area. So that meant....we got our asses pounded by 9th graders....twern't no 'Middle School' and High School was 10-12.

  5. I'm with you Wirecutter...never any appreciation shown for "graduating" from elem school. I think it goes along with "participation trophies" and shit like that. You get a reward now just for breathing...probably through your mouth!

  6. Back in my day, 1960, it was eighth grade to high school. Middle school hadn't been invented yet by the Education PHD's, who, thankfully, didn't start screwing around with what had worked for centuries, until well after I had left the public school system. No fanfare, no snowflake BS. You either went to high school or remained behind for another year of eighth grade. I don't recall anyone in my class having to repeat.

  7. We had an 8th grade graduation, but nothing else. They gave us our report cards at the end of school and I would always hide around a corner to see if I made it to the next grade, yea I was like that. There was a few times I had to sign my old man's name.

  8. As I remember we called it changing schools. We understood we hadn't actually graduated from anything.

  9. In 1962 or so we just got dismissed, and were happy about it.
    These days everybody's a dreamer and everybody's a star.

    Apologies to The Kinks.

  10. This school is in "little Mexico". Probably one of the older hold outs too poor to move that's sees and feels what this country has become.

  11. Far too many have come to feel that every accomplishment is worthy of public ceremony and celebration. Junior High/Middle School graduations; Elementary School graduations; Kindergarten graduations; even Pre-School graduations, for fuck's sake.
