Choking Out Our Freedoms

I was perusing the internet for stories about the communist Chinese government’s brutal crackdown on Hong Kong’s pro-democracy demonstrators, who were protesting new national security laws and a measure criminalizing “disrespect” for the national anthem. There was a chilling video of police in riot gear firing rubber bullets at and spraying a chemical irritant on the generally peaceful crowd, but then I noticed the story’s dateline: Minneapolis.

Oops, these were scenes from a different brutal government. Several hundred U.S. protesters had taken to the streets after a video circulated of a Minnesota officer calmly kneeling for several minutes on the neck of an unarmed man named George Floyd. Meanwhile, three other officers helped subdue Floyd, who didn’t seem to be resisting arrest (the police claim he was), but could be heard groaning, “Please, please, please, I can’t breathe” and “Don’t kill me.”

My opinion on the incident? That man did not deserve to die and the cops involved need to be charged with homicide.
My opinion of the protests? They were warranted, but as usual they got out of hand and the focus has shifted from a legitimate demonstration of outrage to violence and looting. There was no justification in burning down businesses and rampaging through stores.

  1. I agree with a lot of points presented in this article, however, the part about use of tear gas and/or pepper spray is justified whenever it is not a "peaceful" demonstration. Scenes from Minneapolis show a police station and police vehicles being assaulted. Also shown are scenes of private businesses such as an Auto Zone being ransacked and set on fire. These types of "protests" deserve such measures. Auto Zone had nothing to do with the death of that person. The "boyz" are just taking advantage of a situation to get some free oil or wiper blades.

  2. Until the courts stop letting the LEO's hide behind "Qualified Immunity" nothing will change.

    1. ...AND prosecutorial discretion. Although I agree that qualified or sovereign immunity has led to a wide variety of excesses, that, in a just society, should not have been needed to be enacted.

  3. And, lets be honest here. Dude did not just submit, there was a reason 6 cops were holding him down.

Did he deserve to die? No. But lets also face the fact that few black me get arrested peacefully. You don't know what happened prior to the start of the video that the media showed you. Remember: they have an agenda. They need to start fomenting a race war to make sure that the blacks vote DNC this fall....

I'll await judgement until I know the whole story. You should too.

    1. "Just submit" is the advice you give serfs and slaves. It should never be an instruction to Americans. They used 6 cops because your average cop is a gutless coward.
Doubtful we will ever know the whole story, since cops are trained to lie and usually lie any time they open their mouths.

    2. Dude, at some point yer gonna get handcuffed and tossed into the back of the police car. At that point, might as well stop fighting.

Prior to that>? Hell, yeah, make 'em work to catch you.

But once yer caught, why make it worse?

  4. I think they are justified in burning the police station and cars but should leave the uninvolved businesses alone

  5. I don't know if it applies here but when I had to do physical management in a psych hospital I also had to manage my adrenaline and even anger. I think the same thing with cops. You see those video's of cops catching a guy after a chase and he gets an unnecessary beat down. I'm not a cop or a lawyer but we've allowed the police too much unrestrained power and control. I'm guessing the cop kneeling on the mans neck didn't mean to kill him but he apparently didn't feel the need to be vigilant of his own behavior and he shouldn't get a pass.

  7. Okay, I'll say it since no one else has the balls...Nigs gotta nig, or to be more politically correct, the Amish got a whole lot outta hand last night.
Either way, this guy was trying to pass counterfeit money and got caught. We don't know what led up to his being on the ground with a cops knee on his neck. Perhaps he was resisting? Perhaps he was 300 lbs of muscle that it took 4 cops to subdue him? Betcha we'll learn the details very soon. In any case, that doesn't give anyone black or white, permission to destroy public and private property.

    1. Regardless of what led up to it, once they had him face down on the ground and handcuffed, there was no reason or excuse for what they did. It was pure maliciousness. What could he do except bite an ankle if they stupidly allowed him to do that? If you think otherwise, please explain why what those cops did shouldn't be charged as a felony. If black cops did that to a white guilty of the same non-violent offense, would you or would not be outraged about police brutality?

  8. Should be a law stating that if rioting with violence and/or looting takes place, citizens should be allowed to fire at will on those committing the violence and looting.

I'm not going to swoop down there like a member of the Selous Scouts, but a few well-placed AP rounds in step-down tranformers would make things real interesting, in Minecraft.

  9. What was it some other poster said a while back about a similar police debacle?

99.9999% of police officers make the rest look bad.
