Warehouse Fire Devastates San Francisco’s Fishing Industry

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A huge fire that tore through a warehouse on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf has destroyed fishing gear used to deliver about two-thirds of the city’s fresh seafood, threatening to disrupt the upcoming Dungeness crab season, local fishermen said Sunday.

The fire erupted before dawn Saturday and wiped out the warehouse the size of a football field near the end of Pier 45.

I don't think San Francisco's fishing industry was all that big to begin with. I've been to Fisherman's Wharf during salmon and crab season and the same amount of boats were tied up there as during the off-season. I've never seen any boats off-loading their catch.

  2. Total crap. Some developer or homeless citizen, sprurned by a pay off burned this to the ground. What's next? Perhaps a SF hockey team? Garbage.

  5. I read this was right near the Liberty Ship SS Jeremiah O'Brien, but the ship is ok. honestly that would be a bigger loss than fishing gear.

the submarine USS pampanito is there too but I haven't heard what shape the boat is in.

  6. Could be the fire was caused by Jewish lightning. I hear it's been forecast in a lot of places.
