California city of Fort Bragg to consider name change

FORT BRAGG, Calif. — A rugged Northern California coastal city named for a Confederate general may ask voters to change its name as people protesting racial inequality and police brutality tear down monuments honoring former Confederate leaders.

The city of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County is named for Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg, who is accused of keeping more than 100 slaves.

I mentioned this the other day but this is the first news report I've seen confirming it.

  1. It will always be Bragg to a few hundred thousands. The city idiots can go screw themselves.

  3. That Fort Bragg was named for U.S. Army Captain Braxton Bragg.

    1. This exactly. The town (or the Army post established there, that gave the town its name) was named before the Civil War.

  4. I grew up there. It's caused a lot of conversation among my family. They're all shitlibs, so it's been entertaining watching the mental hoops they're trying to jump through for this particular minority self-esteem booster project.

It'll be Fort Bragg to me as long as I live.

  5. Ft. Bragg is one of my favorite places in California. There was a seafood restaurant in Noyo Harbor that had the best clam chowder and smoked salmon I've ever eaten. Still haven't found its equal today, and been to many different parts of the country, but never could find any as good as theirs was.
