Congressmen Question ATF Brace Restriction Plans

“Congressman Matt Gaetz announced … the ATF is crafting secret rules restricting the possession of certain pistol braces by American citizens, and that he has sent them a letter demanding they stop,” a June 16 Hot Take Press Room release reported. The letter, addressed to Attorney General William Barr and ATF Acting Director Regina Lombardo, was co-signed by Republican Reps. Neal P. Dunn, Bill Posey, W. Gregory Steube, John Rutherford, Ted S. Yoho, and Daniel Webster.

"We understand that ATF is currently considering restricting one arm brace model owned by over 700,000 Americans [and] strongly urge ATF to cease taking any actions and reconsider or rescind any secret determinations which call into question the legality of firearms owned by millions of law-abiding Americans."

  1. The first paragraph had me wondering why ATF would care whether or not someone owned a pair of matched pistols. What is known as a brace of pistols.

The second paragraph set me straight.

  2. I do not have the brace listed in the article but I do have an AR-9 pistol with a 11.5" barrel that does have an arm brace of a different design. If I have to I will take it off and have a bare buffer tube. The AR-9 can easily be fired one handed without any rear support.

  3. From what I have been able to find, the ATF is having an issue with some of these braces allowing a LOP of longer than 13 inches.

I own 3 of these firearms, by different manufacturers.
2 of them have hard rubber braces on the buffer tube. Yes, I guess if you took a hammer and beat on it, you could change the LOP or if you used heat to loosen the rubber you could change the LOP. Otherwise, it ain't happening.

The 3rd pistol, is a 9mm AR I bought for my 15 year old daughter to use if things get sporty. It is lighter than a rife, but has enough weight to dampen the recoil. It does have an adjustable brace that can be moved rather easily with the removal of one screw. It wouldn't be too hard to replace the buffer tube and brace with a non adjustable type. I might do that anyway, since the brace is a hard plastic blade instead of the hard rubber clamp style.

My wife had a stroke last year, her left arm and hand are both flaccid. But she can hold the 9mm AR in her right hand and keep it fairly steady with the brace.

    1. I am sorry for your wife's stroke, but you are mistakenly thinking that the BATFE either cares,or more important, has a clue as to what they are doing. I think it must be a few lifetime members of the BATFE unit that don't like guns, or Americans owning them, and are trying to screw as many parts of the gun community and their newest developments that they can.

    2. The BATF like all the other alphabet soup agencies are infiltrated with commies. They need to be defunded and shut down. There will never be any way to determine who needs to be kept and who's a commie. Commies lie. Shut the whole stinkin mess down.

  4. The ATF has ZERO power of legislation - fuck their unconstitutional rules.
    Everyone else's, for that matter.

  5. The local radio station interviewed a guy who survived Waco conflagration, a couple weeks back(morning talk radio). He was quite articulate. I didn't think it was still a current topic, and unfortunately, I didn't think to write down his name for further reading.

Per his experience, (I'm paraphrasing his experience here) the BATF doesn't need legislative powers. They just construct the appropriate narrative for, or more likely WITH the MSM, and then shoot you for non-compliance. And lie about what happened.
