Pelosi Orders Removal of Confederate Portraits from Capitol

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she is ordering the removal from the Capitol of portraits honoring four previous House speakers who served in the Confederacy.

In a letter to the House clerk, Pelosi directed the immediate removal of portraits depicting the former speakers: Robert Hunter of Virginia, James Orr of South Carolina and Howell Cobb and Charles Crisp, both of Georgia. The portraits were to be removed later Thursday.

  1. Might I suggest the removal of any reference to Grand Wizard Robert Byrd of West Virginia, a very good friend of the Clintons, by the way....

    3. Pelosi showing her limited knowledge of history. On June 1865, a Union general announced freedom from slavery from his headquarters in Galveston, Texas. For many years afterwards, Juneteenth was celebrated by black Texans. The advent of 24-hour news pushed Juneteenth into national prominence. I have read pieces in which writers say Juneteenth was the official end of slavery in the US and even that Juneteenth was the day the Civil War ended. Oh, and Cinco de Mayo (also a holiday that began in Texas) is Mexican Independence Day.

Now if Nancy would only pass a bill to erase all memory of her 'leadership' after she's gone.

  10. It's not like this is any kind of surprise. Nancy is the ultimate politician, and the prevailing wind is blowing in the direction of anti slavery from the Civil War era, and Nutty Nancy is not going to let the chance for getting points with her base disappear without getting her due.
History is a strange thing. While you would think that it is non partisan, and only fact based, those facts are always seen through the prism of the winning side. Since it has been a century and a half since the war, the Democrats figure that they can get away with rewriting the history now, since they have rewritten the history about so many other things that didn't suit their narrative.
I don't know if that makes me madder or if it is just part of the rest of their agenda, and goes hand in hand with their ultimate goal of a one world government.

  11. ...And all this time I thought Robert Hunter was (just) a lyricist for the Grateful Dead...
