Also interesting how even in Audie's Hollywood days he had the ability to scare the hell out of people. Even though he wasn't a big man he was a guy that had no fear and took no crap. I enjoyed him in all of his movies, even though some of them were pretty hungry.
Thanks Kenny. I learned from the above video that Sgt. York was not a conscientious objector. Freaking hollywood back in that day was lost. Of course Jeremiah Johnson is my other favorite.
In retrospect, another waste of humanity on both sides to then wind up where we are now.
ReplyDelete"To Hell and Back" and "Sergeant York" are two of my favorite movies.
ReplyDeleteGary Cooper did an excellent job of portraying Alvin York.
And Audie Murphy did an excellent job of portraying... Audie Murphy.
Funny how both were hardscrabble hicks who provided for their families, well, after Alvin got off the drink.

Given opportunity, both men did admirable things.
ReplyDeleteOne word for both: Lions.
ReplyDeleteThe world could use at least one more of either one of them.
