Where bad choices make good stories
Now that is short take off.Exile1981
STOL planes. Acronym for short takeoff and landing. They have races near Reno every year. Search 'STOL drag race' on YouTube for more.Lotsa fun.
10 knot stall speed?
Makes me want to move to Alaska and become a bush pilot.
Have you seen enough bush to be a pilot?
except it seems every week there is a fatal air crash here....
Had to have been howling winds, the mic didn't really do the wind justice.
Was there a heckuva headwind?
About 8 kts.
Just from the prop.
U-10 Heliocourier..... amazing airplane.
Anyone know what kind of airplane that is? That was a very good bit of flying there. Airborne in around three plane lengths. Yeh, assisted by a fairly high headwind, impressive non-the-less.Nemo
I think that's a Fiedler Storch, which is known for short take-offs and landings. That or a copy. With a headwind they can almost hover. It was a German design.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PZL-104_WilgaI hear the Wilga was better. people don't give the polish aircraft industry enough credit.
Check out Draco, amazing bush plane
Amazing plane , but (sadly) crashed, while taking off in a cross-wind on September 17 2019. No injuries, but the plane was totalled.
Who needs tires? That guy could use crutch tips in a pinch.
He don’t need no steenkin’ runway....
