After an encounter with a river otter sent a man to a hospital, officials at Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California are warning people to stay out of the water at a popular lake. MORE
I got attacked by one while conducting a salmon spawning ground survey one day. I inadvertently cornered him, and he came right at me but I was able to back up quick enough, Teeth and growling right in my face. Then he just disappeared. I've had many encounters with river otters. They're fun to watch.
We have a great picture of otters eating a big salmon on the Salmon River during late September. It looked liked two of them are hunched over the salmon and the middle one is looking back at us. Reminded me of bikers trashing somebody and one keeping a lookout for the cops.
Those suckers can get surprisingly big. I sure wouldn't want to screw with one.
