If you ever used that system to light a fire you will recall that first there is scorching, then smoke and then a small flame at the point when the combustibles in the smoke vapour cloud reach ignition temperature and thereafter an increase in flame and temperature as you feed in more combustibles. That guy is a photographer and quite a skilled one by the look of it so what you are seeing is a video version of photoshopping.
