Beninese historian Abiola Félix Iroko gave an interview to local media Benin Web TV. He reminded viewers of the real history at a time when anti-colonialists are busy unbolting statues from their plinths and shouting that white privilege should be abolished because of slavery. He explained how Africans themselves took advantage of the slave trade.
This professor at the history and archeology department of the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) declared on July 25: “When we talk about the slave trade, people only accuse whites. But they came (to Africa) as buyers and we [Africans] were sellers.”

I haven't researched it a heck of a lot but the Somalis supplied a lot of other Africans to the slave market. The arabs gave them a pass because they were Mohamadens.

DeleteLet's not forget the Arabs who were the major slaving power in the Mediterranean Basin.
ReplyDeleteMuslim conquests throughout history resulted in the burning of Christian cities, murder and dismemberment of priests and older males, and sexual enslavement of women, girls, and pretty boys. Arabs, Turks, and Northern Africans were major slavers, and don't forget the Jews too.

ReplyDeleteWhen they were dividing up the slaves, the beautiful women and comely boys were sent to Mecca Tehran and Baghdad. The guys who looked like trouble got stuck on a boat along with the girls the camel fuckers didn't want.
ReplyDeleteHad Europeans not created a market, those men and likely the women would have been killed for sport and to make sure Abdullah didn't get shanked while banging a goat.
I bears mentioning that liberals in America only care about slavery that ended 150 years ago, and not the slavery that still goes on today. It's actually still pretty common in all of the uncivilized countries. That includes Black and Asian communities in the USA. It also bears mentioning that only White European people cared enough to spend any effort eradicating it.

Lots of coastal tribes happily sold those from interior tribes into slavery. So did 5 'Civilized' tribes of Native Americans in the south, and made some good coin that way.
