Lethal force as a response to the laser threat

Yesterday, Senator Ted Cruz held a hearing on the threat Antifa and anarchist violence posed to this country.

Cruz noted that not one Democrat senator at the hearing condemned any of the violence carried out by Antifa, blaming the federal government and right win provocateurs.

I will cover this hearing more in the future.

One of the things that stood out to me was this bit of testimony:

  1. Yep! Taking away my eyesight is the same as cutting off my hands or feet. If you tried to hack off my arm, I'd shoot ya. If you try to take away my vision...guess what....I'll shoot ya!

That's a basic principle of self defense. Whether the target is a cop or an armed citizen, lethal force is for defending against not just your imminent death, but also great bodily injury...which I would consider blindness to be. YMMV but I'm fairly well attached to seeing the world around me, and I'll fight pretty hard to keep my vision.

  2. In my state, such use of a laser to blind is considered assault & battery. Use of lethal force to prevent bodily harm is allowed in our state. If someone tried to blind me with a laser some .308 Win would be my response.

  3. I had actually wondered about this one...as cited in there, use of lethal force is justifiable to prevent "death or grave bodily harm" to yourself or others...and eyesight would seem to me to qualify as grave bodily harm, as the injury is permanent and debilitating.

  4. I got retinal damage from welding in the AF in my early 20's. 50 years later that damage is still there, it's permanent. I agree that a laser attack should be treated as attempting great bodily harm, it's not really different than someone trying to poke your eye out.

  5. In most of the vids I've seen of the Portland festivities, there are green laser tracks seen being pointed at the police. What I've often wondered, after see those tracks, is why some police sniper team isn't taking them out.

    1. If/when this shit comes near me, that will be my response. I don't need a uniform to get some gopher cong. I compiled the dope for zero at 100, 250, 300. I like iron sights a bunch but let's not squirrel around here.

  6. Since the laser wielders hid in a cluster of their friends, fragmentation grenades or air-bursts seem appropriate.

  7. Counter rounds would be appropriate... There are usually three or four of them in a group from what I've seen on some of the videos.

  8. The second greatest injury is hearing. That's the bullhorns.

Simple solution. Let the officers feed them to the perps.

Serves two purposes. a) End of damage to officers' hearing, b) An increase in business for dentists.

The former is good for law enforcement. The latter is good for the economy.
