Been keeping bees about 5 years. Harder than it looks. You CAN do that tho, they generally won't sting you if you move slow and don't get nervous (and have ginormous brass balls!) I have to suit up, coat, veil, and gloves. If I'm feeling brave, I'll just leave my shorts and flipflops.
You know what tells me this whole 'Bee Die-Off' and 'End of Civilization due to loss of Bees' thingy is, well 2 things.
The price of domestic honey has been stable for over 10 years.
and...
When I had a huge hive in the walls of my house, the local bee-keepers all wanted to charge me big bucks to remove said hive. Hmmm... Middle of 'EndoftheWorld' due to hive die-offs and they want to charge me to remove said bees? Methinks there is great fuckery going on.
When I was a kid, our neighbor across the street was a carpenter and artisan woodworker who was a bit different. A swarm of bees set up hivekeeping in the wall of his living room, so he borrowed a smoker from a friend who kept bees and after he got them quiet, he opened up the living room wall and installed a pane of glass so you could watch the bees.
I have a hive that moved into the attic of our front porch. I am going have to call this gal and get her to come and remove them. Maybe I can help her. I'll just have to tell wife to go and check her Mother that day.

Local bee keeper has hives in my field. Today I was working in a hole with standing water. Hundreds of bees swarming around me.
