Judge Approves $800M Payout Plan for Vegas Shooting Victims

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) — A court on Wednesday approved a total of $800 million in payouts from casino company MGM Resorts International and its insurers to more than 4,400 relatives and victims of the Las Vegas Strip shooting that was the deadliest in recent U.S. history. The action makes final a deal announced earlier this month and settles dozens of lawsuits on the eve of the third anniversary of the shooting that killed 58 people and injured more than 850 at an open-air concert near the Mandalay Bay resort.

    1. They haven't answered "the people's" questions since Ruby killed Oswald. Note I didn't say since Oswald killed Kennedy, because that's NEVER been proven.

  2. No answers, especially one to the question of how much are the lawyers going to clean up.

    1. The lawyers probably get at least 20%, probably more on the order of 50% and will be abjectly unapologetic at the amount they pocket, which is guaranteed as part of the settlement approved by the court. Let's not forget that judges, for the most part, started their law careers as lawyers and we all know that lawyers take care of their own.

    2. Anonymous: Attorneys get 40% of a jury trial case and 33% of cases that are settled out of court

    3. "Attorneys get 40% of a jury trial case and 33% of cases that are settled out of court"

As a general rule, that's pretty accurate, but things can be a lot more lopsided than that.

  3. Always been a pretty sketchy situation. Weird videos about helos, and gunfire coming from other directions. Not buying it.

  4. Still unsure why it's the resort's liability. I guess MGM Resorts had the deepest pockets.

  5. Maybe that Arabian prince could chip-in some.

    PS:
I do not believe one word from the official report, including 'and' and 'the'.

  6. According to my math that works out to $181818.18 before the lawyer's bloodletting. Chump change indeed.
