Missing Tahoe Boater Recovered From More Than 1,500 Feet Under Water

LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) — After more than a month of effort from several agencies across Northern California, the body of a 29-year-old New Jersey man was found at the bottom of Lake Tahoe and will be returned to his family.

During a three-week vacation to California in August, Ryan Normoyle paid a visit to Lake Tahoe and rented a boat for two hours to explore the waters. His vacation that quickly turned deadly and the last moments of his life were captured on camera.

  1. If I cant pull over to the shoulder and walk away, I dont get in it. No boats for me. No flying thru the air either

  2. We were on Tahoe in a 21' boat the same day as this one. Saw the lights and helos out there a ways and knew something was up. The water was glassy enough to ski in the morning, but came up like a washing machine on agitate later in the day. That lake is no joke.

  3. I'm surprised they didn't find a missing mobster body (or two or three).

    1. No, they're all under the Highway 49 bridge over New Melones Lake. No boat rental needed to dispose of unwanted bodies there. Just pull over in the dark of night and give the stiff the old heave ho.

  4. Had a Gilligan's Island moment on the lake years ago.

Rented a pontoon boat, lovely clear day.

    Halfway back to the marina,
    the storm came on FAST.

In about 10 minutes, I had my wife and kids in 2-3 foot swells,
    under leaden skies.

Funny thing was, all the boats that were about 12" off the water, remted out at the same time. I wondered how many swamped in that storm..

  5. Must have been too cold at that depth for the decomposition to really get going and turn him into a floater.

    1. Man, that lake is ice cold at the surface even during the middle of summer.

    2. Went swimming in it only one time. I was 10. A buddy tried to talk me into SCUBA diving the lake. Didn't want to hang around the place that long to get the Nitrogen levels stabilized to do a high altitude dive.
