No more paddling?

A Virginia lawmaker wants to federally ban corporal punishment from schools.

U.S. Rep. A. Donald McEachin (VA-04), submitted H.R. 8460 on Wednesday, otherwise known as the Protecting Our Students in Schools Act of 2020.

  1. What they need to do is bring it back. Some kids need a good paddling

Hey, instead of playing Guess the Race (yes, he's a person of color) let's play Guess the Political Party, shall we?

  3. He is in the wrong legislature for a federal ban. He needs to be on the anti-spanking platform at the federal level.

  4. Not having a consequence to bad behavior is why we have the trouble with criminals and the “woken” ones. A few swats is a great consequence and a great deterrent. The “time out” isn’t enough.

  5. We had one teacher in Jr. High, who taught 7th and 8th grade Algebra, who would give swats, for both acting up in class, or for failure to do your homework. Guess what? No one acted up in his class, and everyone did their homework.
The article mentions that there is no evidence that corporal punishment works. Exhibit #1, not only did nobody mess up in our Jr. High classes, but everyone learned Algebra. Even the students who were less than stellar in other classes. Some of the smarter kids always helped them get through. Go figure.

  7. I think that's a great idea. If students misbehave in class, their parents have to come pick them up and keep them home for a 1 day (increasing with each violation) suspension.
