The Best Revolver in the World
It's a blast from the past! (No pun intended. Probably). I'm looking back at one of our most popular videos ever to provide some new reflections, revisions, updates, and other commentary. Do I still think the Smith & Wesson Model 66 is the best revolver in the world? Did I ever really think that to begin with? Does it even matter? Find out in this 2020 update of The Best Revolver in the World.

Blast from the past is the name of the store where I shop. Guns, ammo and antiques.
ReplyDeleteI've had three of them. Good revolvers. Snakes are better. Better quality, better trigger. Only thing I never liked was the cylinder release, which is ass backward.
ReplyDeleteThinking about getting a Python when all this political crap is over and stores have a chance to restock. That may or may not happen, depending on the outcome of the election.
I like mine.
ReplyDeleteS&W 686, you knuckle-dragging cromagnons. You non-sophisticates are really annoying to those of us with experience and taste.
ReplyDeleteOpinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.
DeleteColt Python for sure is the best quality, tightest tolerances, etc.
ReplyDeleteANYONE that pops off about a PYTHON being bad ...HAS never used one. I LOVEM!....IMO
DeleteI concur 686 S&W....quality and pure awesomeness with every shot
ReplyDeleteA proper gentleman would never consider anything other than a Webley.
ReplyDeleteRather, Old Boy!
DeleteThe old S&W Triple Lock in both 38 and 44spl were the revolvers strong enough for Elmer Keith to develope the 357 and 44 magnum cartridges.
ReplyDeleteWhat Chip said.
ReplyDeleteModel 65-2. Everything a combat handgun needs. Nothing it don't----Ray
ReplyDeleteSame one I've got.
DeleteI HAD a 65-2, 39-2 & a snubby smith THEY should have been colored YELLOW...JUNK. Now a RUGER SP101 AND ANY COLT.. Different story.
DeleteGreat 357. I rarely shoot full loads as most of what I shoot is 38+p hot loads.
Deletei guess that makes me and my model 19 ...old school ?
ReplyDeleteI have a model 19 manufactured in 1971 and I *love* it.
DeleteALSO a TALO VAQUERO 45 COLT
ReplyDelete-Just because I'm an asshole...Sig P250.
ReplyDeleteI've owned a Ruger Security 6 and a J-frame Smith. Both in 357 magnum. Not in the market for a wheel gun with a lower capacity.
I haven't carried a wheel gun in close to 3 decades. Back then I carried either a Ruger Speed Six with a 4inch barrel in 357 or a S/W model 36 in 38 special, both are great guns for what they were designed for. I'm a lot older now and less likely to go hands on voluntarily so I prefer to carry a weapon with a larger capacity.

Quality wise Korth is very high quality. Pythons especially the first generation ones are second (I have a 1980's one I am looking to get both barrel lengths of the new one. I had not one but two model 66's I bought in the 70's for $250.00 each at a rod and gun club in Germany. these were No-Dash model very nice guns I had to sell both later during a cash crunch.
ReplyDeleteI owned a Smith, model 66, .357, 4" barrel. impossible to shoot with no hearing protection, fair carry hideout gun, .357 outstanding caliber, just don't plan on having many conversations the rest of your life because you'll be deaf. Enclosed room muzzle blast is off the scale, actually painful. Mispent youth is a hell of a teacher.
ReplyDeleteNever cared for the cylinder release or vent rib on Colt revolvers.
ReplyDeleteEight Smiths in my inventory: J, K and L-frames in .22, .38 and .357 (including a Gen 3 9mm.) All are excellent handguns. M640 my favorite snubby, M65 handier than the 686. The blued 50s-era M10 and K22 are exquisite.
