  1. #1 - As soon as I saw that ice sloughing off I would have been on the throttle to get the heck outta Dodge. I guess they didn't realize the size or speed of the wave that would be coming at them.

    1. If you look you can see some wake to the side. They were reversing. Swinging around would have guaranteed a swamp.

  2. About 65 we, the soccer team, picked up a teachers Volkswagen and carried it into the school through double doors. There was a foyer so we got turned it and carried it down the hall a long way. The bumpers were just inches from the walls. We left it about mid-way. It took the local garage a long time getting it out with floor jacks. Nope, we didn't like the teacher.

    1. My dad tells the same story, though in '62 for him. He says that the halls were a bit wider, so the teacher was able to get in to the car and drive it out, but took out a bank of lockers in doing so.

    2. About 1978 we put a teacher's car in a dumpster. Did it at an away football game. Nice fit I might add.

    3. 82 for me, art teachers VW Jetta. Amazing what 5" fence posts will hold when you use them as carry handles.
(we also washed/waxed it for her while it was in there...had to be nice ;-)

  3. In the late '60's, one of my high school teachers had an Isetta.
That car ended up in a lot of out-of-the-way places.

One of the other teachers had a Saab Sonett, which almost as easy to pick up.
No one touched it, though, because no one liked the cocksucker.

  4. #7 Duck, duck, goose.

#10 actually assisted in one of this mode efforts involving an Alfa Romeo.

    1. They should have turned it around facing the other way while they had it up.

  5. #2 -- 110 kph is only 70 mph, and digital 70 is visible on the dash. Nothing unusual about this for well maintained farm equipment.

#10 -- Hopefully this is a pre-arranged gag. A surprised driver could floor the gas pedal while the car was off the ground.

    1. I would hate to travel at 70 mph in a tractor. Rubber tire suspension, no springs or shocks would make for a rough ride. Ive done 25 mph on a Lull 400. That will bring out the gray.

    2. Unmodified farm equipment doesn't go 70 mph.
My tractor tops out at 16.5 mph and the equipment that gets moved on the highway around here does 20-25 at most.

    3. This is a Lanz HR9 Eil-Bulldog, D2539 series. It was designed for high-speed heavy goods delivery. It had a one-cylinder multi-fuel engine with 10.388 ccm (= 630,86 cu in) displacement, giving it 55hp at 750 rpm.
The original maximum speed was 30 km/h to allow its use on the Autobahn which had a minimum speed in those days.
I guess that with a little judicious tinkering and some modifications of the gearbox the shown speed is not out of the question.

  6. #7 And some people wonder why some dogs kill birds.
I think that goose is not long for this world.

  10. Back in the 70s we used to pick up a buddy's VW Bug and put it on top of the firewood pile at his parent's house.

  11. #10 - Found a parking space RIGHT IN FRONT of the entrance to the Who concert in '76. 3" longer than the toyota. One guy at each corner. Saved the $8 parking and a 2 mile walk.
