Nantucket Sleigh Ride actually took up 2 sides of their 4-sided live LP. Saw them couple of times at the old Jacksonville Coliseum back in the day. Pioneers of Power Rock.
I saw Leslie West open for Foghat back in the mid 70s. He rocked the crowd big time. Foghat sucked, everybody wanted West to come back on stage. He did return headlining his own tour some months later.
Caught their show in 1974 (maybe 75) at the Long Beach Arena. Opening acts were Sweathog and The J. Geils band. Had such a good time that I don't remember much of that night.
the story I heard goes somewhat like this: Felix Pappalardi, who was The Cream's producer at the time, was in New York helping to set up concert dates for Cream. He heard leslie West's band, I dis-remember the name. Anyway, basically what Felix said was the band sucked but the fat kid on guitar was great. The Mountain song The Animal Trader & The Toad was about their relationship. I think the name was inspired by a music reviewer/critic.
I was at the Randall's Island concert, it was a dual sponsored gig, Black Panthers and Young Lords...on the 3rd day when Clapton was a no show, people started getting rambunctious, and burning the wooden barricades, so we left quickly...it was a mess
Oh man, Memories of Nantucket Sleigh Ride. Tripping my brains out. Took me right off the planet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for those that don't know. Nantucket Sleigh Ride was the entire side of an album.
