PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG)- Chris Nikic earned himself a Guinness World Record by becoming the first person with Down syndrome to finish the Ironman triathlon.
The competition consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon run. Nikic finished in 16 hours, 46 minutes and nine seconds during Ironman Florida on Saturday.
Well done that man. I've done one so I know how tough a challenge it is. I love the fact that the idea of the ironman was dreamed up by a bunch of drunks in a bar. From memory, the first ever ironman in 1978 had 17 entrants and 12 finishers, it has now gone global and thousands of masochistic nutters give it a go every year.
Right on. My sister in law had Downs and lived to 68 years of age. She was special. We have a good friend that attends our gym with Downs. One day I looked over and thought jesus mary and joseph that kid is strong. I forget how much he was pumping but it was a lot. Go Chris!
Jeebus! My hat is off to you Chris. You are an amazing young MAN!
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong, but that seems like a fine time for anybody to finish in.
ReplyDeleteChris is a STUD!
