I saw this a few months ago and found after some research that it is a pill box from the Maginot Line in France (what an perfect example of how NOT to defend a country). After the Allies kicked the Germans out of the area while pushing them back to Berlin and the dustbin of history, this pill box was used for target practice by US Tanks. Yes, that is what a round from a Sherman Tank 75mm HE round will do to armor plate.
"After the battle, the Americans brought up various tanks and other anti-tank weapons into range and fired at them to see how much punishment they would take."
The Germans shot up some Maginot Line fortifications from the west after beating the French. You have to admit, though, the Germans did not attack the line from the east, so the Maginot Line was successful.
It'll buff out.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I was going to say that.

ReplyDeleteAnd then rebuilt and put in service during the Cold War. Not a lot of people remember that. Sections were in service till the fall of the CCCP.
DeleteSlap some Bondo on it and a coat of paint, good as new.
ReplyDeleteFriend of mine sent this pic the other day with a caption that said, "Just look at the damage those 1911s did." I laughed, for a minute.
