My Dad recalled of the time he and my older brother were at the local switching yard and the engineer took him for a ride while he was moving cars. that was over 50 years ago. Never happen again.
When I was a kid living on 100 acres on the prairie, sound carried pretty far since it was generally flat terrain. And I remember as little squirt late at night hearing the whistle of the train coming through on the main line. As in steam engine locos. And it wasn't long until I heard air horns instead of a whistle, when diesel-electrics were put into use.
That was so cool for that kid! He is having an experience that he'll always remember with feelings of joy!
ReplyDeleteThat's really true. I was lucky enough 40+ years ago myself, and my own son got the treatment too a year or 2 back.

I had a smile the whole time! Good on him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Kid!!
ReplyDeleteI can see my kid doing this, and he lived out his dream of becoming an engineer with the railroad.
ReplyDeleteI tried that once 50 years ago and the guardsman at the end threw a pot of cold water on me. I joined the Air Force.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a recruiting commercial right there.
DeleteGot to like those guys on that train to take the time to give that little boy a thrill. Awesome.
