    2. Also, kinda like the chicken and the road, getting to the other side of the frozen Poly gas line... uh, are you sure it's frozen?

  4. Looks like he’s crossing a pipe line. It actually take a bit of coordination to do that, especially at the speed he did it, that ain’t no rookie operator.

    1. But that’s that’s the ticket, he’s an operator of machinery..

  5. That maneuver isn't really that difficult, it's just a move that was probably taught to him by some old fox that's run one a long time.
You might be surprised to know how often a guy will pick up one end of the machine to make it easier to turn. The old machines were notorious for having underpowered drive motors. They just couldn't turn easily. The new ones are a different matter altogether.
An excavator is neat because it carries it's own hydraulic jack with it.

  9. I worked the Wy oilfields for 6 years back in the mid 80's, pretty much all heavy duty construction, saw crane operators do things like picking up chokers using the 850lb headache ball by sliding the hook barely along the ground 40 yards out with out using a rigger. 120 ft away and using a feather lite touch. Feathering the ball into a maze of structure to do a pick with a foot of clearance, 850lb ball on the end of a 300ft boom with 40ft of jib. What touch tho operator's had. I was so lucky to see this work done by a guy who had coke-bottle glasses and looked like the 19th kid from inbred parents.
