Expect a Back Lash Against the Left If Biden Fails to Denounce Riots and Threaten Defunding the Police

It is former Vice President Joe Biden, and not President Donald Trump, who has a political problem due to ongoing riots in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd as public backlash against the political left has begun seeping into public attitudes concerning the race for president in 2020.

On July 28, as attention was focused on attempts by radical leftist mobs led by Antifa to burn a federal courthouse in Portland, Oreg. to the ground, Biden issued a weak statement unbelievably blaming President Donald Trump and federal law enforcement for the riots.

Hundreds of homeless people who have been put up in luxury hotels on Manhattan's Upper West Side by the city as part of its efforts to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks in shelters are terrifying residents by urinating, sleeping and taking drugs in the streets.

Black Slaveowners

Dr. Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950), known as “The Father of Black History,” was born in Buckingham County, Virginia, the son of former slaves. He received his doctorate from Harvard, rose to prominence as a writer and historian, and was the editor of The Journal of Negro History. He is best known for establishing Black History Week, which evolved into Black History Month.

In 1924 Dr. Woodson compiled from the U. S. Census records of 1830 the names and numbers of free Black owners of slaves, listed by State, along with the number of slaves owned by each. The statistics were copied by three assistants under his supervision, personally reviewed by Dr. Woodson, and published in Free Negro Owners of Slaves in the United States in 1830, Together with Absentee Ownership of Slaves in the United States in 1830. (Washington, DC: The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, 1924.)

Most of the listings are in the South, but there are also listings of free Black owners of slaves in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. In the North, Pennsylvania had the most number of free Black owners of slaves, numbering twenty-three, with New York and New Jersey next.

Landlords call for end to California eviction moratorium

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Landlords said they feel stuck and abandoned because of California’s temporary eviction moratorium, which was put into place to help people who may be struggling to pay rent due the novel coronavirus outbreak and the resulting public health restrictions.

“We cannot exercise our rights in court,” said Diana Polyakov.

Diana and Michael Polyakov said they are at the mercy of the state’s eviction moratorium. They recently purchased their dream home in Granite Bay and temporarily rented it out. But they said now, the renters aren’t paying and aren’t leaving.

And here we have the politicians wanting to keep it in place:

California’s legislative leaders are asking the state’s Judicial Council for more time before renter evictions resume during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying they are facing “an impossible decision” between rushing legislation and leaving millions of tenants unprotected.

Most evictions in the state were suspended in April after California courts stopped processing nearly all cases. Gov. Gavin Newsom gave the court system the power to stop evictions in an emergency order in late March, intended to allow “maximum flexibility” in responding to the pandemic. At the time, the Legislature was on an extended break to reduce the spread of coronavirus in the state Capitol.

A Thank You From the Lanes

It's been 2 months now since Miss Lisa's son Josh passed away, a very rough 2 months for her. She's going through something that no parent should ever have to go through, and while I know that saying has been used for millennia, it rings as true today as it did the first time it was uttered.

The support of each and every one of you that sent a sympathy card, an email, a donation, or a simple prayer helped tremendously, more than I can express in words. It showed her that she wasn't having to bear this burden alone.
Yes, I was there for her, but as a husband, that's my job and is expected. What wasn't expected was the huge outpouring of support from folks like you that took a few moments to show that you cared. That in itself was amazing. As we grow older we begin to become hardened to tragedy and suffering, or so we think until something like this happens, then we're shown that compassion still lives and in some of the most unexpected places and ways.
For this we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. I can't begin to tell you how much you've helped my wife through this, but please know that each and every one of you made a huge difference in our lives and we'll never forget this.

Tax preparers warn unemployment recipients could owe IRS

Tax preparers are concerned that many of the millions of Americans receiving unemployment benefits due to the pandemic are unaware that they might owe money to the IRS next year.

Jobless benefits are subject to federal income taxes, as well as state income taxes in most parts of the country.

But workers who are collecting benefits for the first time may not be aware of those tax implications, or they might opt against having taxes withheld from their benefit payments. People who do not have enough money withheld during the year could end up with smaller refunds or balances due to the IRS when they file their 2020 tax returns.

His father, a Presbyterian minister, also worked in the cattle and sheep business and died when Clay was only five. Clay was said to have been restless from birth and as he grew into manhood, he became feared for his wild mood swings and easy anger.

Clay worked on the family farm until the age of 21 when the Civil War broke out and he immediately signed up to fight for the Confederacy, enlisting in the Tennessee Light Artillery division on October 15, 1861.

No Store Did More: How H-E-B Became a Model of Emergency Preparedness

Back on February 2, the first coronavirus death outside China was reported in the Philippines. That same day, Donald Trump appeared on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News to say that the United States had “pretty much shut it down coming in from China.” And in San Antonio, Justen Noakes, the director of emergency preparedness for H-E-B, dusted off a pandemic response plan the supermarket chain had developed more than a decade earlier. Noakes and a handful of the company’s department heads met at H-E-B’s downtown headquarters. Sitting around a conference table, the group ran a simulation, war-gaming a dire scenario: an outbreak of a deadly infectious disease in Texas.

“We introduced the concept of COVID-19 and what it would look like when it came to Texas,” Noakes said. “That gave us a moment to pause to think about how it would impact our operations and what we would do to respond.” From there, teams across H-E-B got to work updating the pandemic plan that Noakes had developed in 2009, when the San Antonio suburb of Cibolo became the first place in Texas with confirmed cases of H1N1, commonly known as swine flu. The emergency management division studied how the Chinese government had responded in the early days of the coronavirus outbreak and projected how social distancing measures such as metering customer entry and erecting plexiglass partitions might be implemented. Members of the supply-chain team focused on keeping products in stock. The personnel department studied how Chinese retailers were managing a workforce that was getting sick. The product team looked to Europe for insight into changes in consumer behavior as customers began self-isolating. Within a couple weeks of the tabletop exercise, H-E-B had a plan.

All this over a damned mask

Hey, if you don't want to wear a mask inside a shop that requires one, don't shop there. It's as simple as that.

I've broken down and worn one a couple times in the past two weeks when I went into Walmart to get stuff we needed that the other stores here in town didn't carry. I didn't like it and you can be sure that I checked the other stores first, but in the end I put the damned mask on. Did I get snappy with the employee that was outside making sure that customers understood they were required? No, it's not her fault. Did I lie and say I had a medical exemption? No, I don't lie. Will I try to order what I need online next time? You bet I will.

I have to say that this is something that I've struggled with anyway. While I'm healthy, my wife is one of those at-risk people due to pre-existing health problems. Do I risk being exposed and passing it on to her because of my hard-headedness?
No, I took a vow when we got married to protect her. My solution was to avoid crowds and to stay as far away from other people as possible which is something that I've always done anyway. No big deal. But in the end, you do what you have to do.

From the refusal to allow the attorney general to answer the questions which the Democratic propaganda machine had assured the country would be unanswerable, to the almost unimaginable discourtesy of the bumbling and nasty committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.)—who declined even to agree to the attorney general’s request for a five-minute break—to the concise dismissals Barr was able to make when allocated time by Republican congressmen to answer the belligerent allegations of their Democratic colleagues; all of it demonstrated the extent to which this election campaign has become an exercise in make-believe.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A man on the sidewalk dressed as a wizard waves customers inside Wray’s Knick Knack Shack in Oklahoma City.

But so far, customers are few. The business shuttered just two weeks after it opened due to the pandemic. Thousands of antiques, collectibles, furniture, and more fill the 5,000-square-foot space, waiting to be sold.

“Yesterday, I only made 25 cents for all day. One little item and it’s just killing me. My electric bills are running me over $500 a month,” owner Chuck Wray said.

Historian: ‘Africans must be condemned for the slave trade’

Beninese historian Abiola Félix Iroko gave an interview to local media Benin Web TV. He reminded viewers of the real history at a time when anti-colonialists are busy unbolting statues from their plinths and shouting that white privilege should be abolished because of slavery. He explained how Africans themselves took advantage of the slave trade.

This professor at the history and archeology department of the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) declared on July 25: “When we talk about the slave trade, people only accuse whites. But they came (to Africa) as buyers and we [Africans] were sellers.”

Florida Highway Patrol received a call from the passenger in a Toyota SUV at 1 p.m. Saturday who said that the man he was driving with “began acting strange.” The passenger said the driver then stopped on the southbound ramp of Exit 86 to Boynton Beach, got out of the car, and began walking on the highway, according to FHP.
