  2. LOL Interesting video. I drove for UPS for about 6 months. Hired as a peak season driver, then asked to stay on for a bit after the holidays. Mid 80;s after college.
    My training consisted of my first day with the supervisor riding along showing me my route and other small administrative things, that was it. At the end of the day it was "your are good to go. and always try to beat standard" Things have changed.

  3. The drivers that service our house have always been very nice. But they don't have time to visit, they come out of the truck at a trot and go back to it the same way. I'd rather ship UPS over USPS or FedEx any day.

    1. We used to have a driver who was a great guy. He'd always time his stop at our place around his lunchtime so he could visit. Then they went to the GPS tracking and that ended the visits.
      He soon got the most rural route available, driving a FWD F-350 in some beautiful country, sometimes needing to chain up. He loved it.
      I recently read that he just retired after over 30 years with UPS. They lost a peach in that man.

  4. How strange. The narrator says UPS spends $250 million/per year of teaching safe driving. Then she says this training 'may' prove beneficial. I'd want solid metrics that the investment is paying off.

    OTOH, this is all rather funny. UPS drivers are well known as being in a hurry. Many moons ago I was a route driver (Big Sur coastline, single lane highway, beautiful route) and one day I told my boss I had passed the UPS driver. He told me not to do that again. LOL

  5. I can remember seeing the UPS truck running down the street unmanned. The driver sprinting after, snatching packages out of the back,veering off to a house then back to the truck. The mechanic fucked him one day,idle was a little faster, and the truck was a half block ahead of him and pulling away as it passed my house. Neighbor kid caught it. I think he was on the college track team.
    That was about 1985.

  6. Small point of personal pride. I designed the UPS driver seat. It's 10 way adjustable and has an adjustable lumbar and surface membrane support for the dual density foam package. Part of the body of work for an old engineer.

  8. One Christmas season, I worked as a driver, and spent more time training than I did driving. The rest of the time, I stuffed trucks.

  9. I was a Driver's Helper at Xmas when they didn't work weekends. I made enough in 10 days to pay for a semester of college and lost 10-15 lbs. LOL. Unlike my friends working retail, I have the week after Xmas off.

  10. That kind of training as most training was probably required due to a legal case from a moron who claimed after falling they did not train me to walk on ice. And thats why warning labels are on everything but a toilet seat but am sure thats not to far behind.
