In Tennessee, Republican lawmakers are expected to push again to allow most adults 21 and older to carry firearms — concealed or openly — without a license that now requires a background check and training.
GOP Gov. Bill Lee backed the idea last year, though the proposal and others were put on hold amid the pandemic.
Gonna make me wish I'd never left. Well, I wish that anyway. When we moved to Maryville in '04, my Georgia license would have been handled as a renewal but since Georgia didn't require training, I'd have had to be in Knoxville at 0800 on a Saturday. I was retired and dindu that stuff. It was still a big improvement over earlier Tennessee law. In the 70's when we'd go up to visit my wife's parents, there was no reciprocity so I called the Tennessee State Patrol and asked what the law was on carrying in a car. I was told that it was "Carrying a weapon with intent to go armed". Uhhh. Yeah? So I didn't. After we moved back there was reciprocity but everyone's gone so we don't go there any more. God knows what will happen in Georgia in two years when the governor is Stacey Abrams.
ReplyDeleteConstitutional Carry has been the norm in AZ for years. It should be that way in every state!

I still have a permit so I can get reciprocity in states and National Parks that need a Mother May I slip.
It's all a money game. Whatever law enforcement agency responsible for issuing the licenses in your state, here in La. it's the state police, are living large on the bullshit fees they charge, example; here's pretty much our breakdown $125 or so for classes then, pictures and finger prints 20 - 50 depending on where you get it done, actual permit $125 = $270 - $300 for 5 years then repeat classes and permit costs every 5 years unless you buy lifetime license for $500, then you're responsible just for classes every 5 years. It's money, money, money so I just said Fuck it, open carry legal here and free from bullshit fees.
