Old enough to die for your country, too young to smoke
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) will implement a new law in Tennessee which requires a person buying tobacco products to be 21 or over.
I have a real problem with this. The federal government and it's lackeys have done a phenomenal job of almost literally outlawing the act of smoking. From laws to public perception, the act of smoking is now considered wrong in so many attributes. I'm not a smoker, grew up with two smoking parents, neither of them having had medical issues that could be traced back to smoking. My 21 year old daughter thinks her grandma, who still smokes like a chimney, is a horrible person..........because she smokes. Thanks to public dogma. Yet she (my daughter) vapes. Go figure. Also, something I thought about when Obamacare was coming into play. If big gov pays for your healthcare, they have the ability to tell you what and what they won't cover. Now imagine the anti smokers saying "If your ailment is due to smoking, you have no health care coverage". Then next step is to outlaw it completely. So that's my vent. I don't particularly care if people smoke or not, it's just not for me.
Ken I am with you. I could buy beer at 18 until 3 months before I turned 21 when they raised the legal age. I said the same thing and my Dad got pissed. I forgot he lost a brother in Sicily so I understood and would not have said it in front of him but we were all young and dumb at one time.
This crap pissed me off, I remember in Georgia I could buy booze at 18, but I joined the Army at 19 then went to the Peoples republic of Mass for AIT and the drinking age was 21. It sucked, I was old enough to get shot for my country but not old enough to buy a beer. Once I got my car, I would make booze runs to Vermont in Brattleboro where the drinking age was 18 and bring booze back to the barracks. The Feds tried to crack down on Vermont and withhold highway money and Vermont said "sure, We more than make up for it in booze taxes from the other states surrounding them whose drinking age was 21. Once I went to Germany, the Germans didn't how old I was and I discovered that the German beer was a lot better.
I worked in a foundry with smoke so dense you could see the air you were breathing. But the state of Michigan made a rule that you could no longer smoke in the workplace. So we had to go outside, even in winter, to smoke a cigarette. I have quit smoking for over 5 years or so, but I am still not happy with the government telling me what I can do with my own body. You know, my body, my choice, right?
Yeah, President Trump signed legislation in December 2019 changing federal law to make the minimum age to purchase tobacco products 21. It's all freaking ridiculous. If you're old enough to be drafted, nothing should be barred to you solely because of age. Whether it's alcohol or tobacco, these laws are outrageous.

ReplyDeleteBut if the Feds outlaw smoking/tobacco, they lose all that lovely lovely tax revenue.
DeleteMaybe tobacco and marijuana use approval will pass each other going in opposite directions.

DeleteEnh, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia still smoke plenty - I'm sure the gummint won't outlaw growing tobacco to sell to them.
Tennesse? Come on....that's bullshit.
